He can do anything he wants, no matter what, for the rest of his life. He breaks ground almost every time he releases something, and I think that is what interests him the most. And he gets paid up front. In that respect, he is a very good businessman. But I agree that he doesn't make nearly as much as he could. well, let's be honest... those ticket sales are people who are return customers. i can't imagine hardly anyone is going to see him nowdays based on his modern recorded output. his entire career at this point is built on fans of his old stuff, some of which have kept with the new. nobody is hearing prince for the first times from any of his albums post TRC, and even that one would be stretching... granted, he can ride on that probably for the rest of his life. no matter how tepid or craptacualr his new stuff is, the man can still sell out a concert because the sheer genius of his old stuff holds up, and because he is still a master musician, if not half the songwriter he used to be. but he's a terrible business man. he makes terrible business choices that are often void of any real logic. he complains endlessly about the bootlegs, but only put out two tepid and preachy live albums of his new stuff, while AMAZING live stuff from his heyday gets bootlegged from his own vaults. he guts the fans for money, as in the lotuslfower.com debacle, and has the audacity to charge fans 8 times the retail price so they can watch streaming videos they already had legally bought. he sues the fansites to keep them from posting pics or videos. the man makes insanely bad business choices. he needs management in the worst way, but his ego prevents him from it because he is convinced that his musical genius is the same as his business lunacy. LOL, I don't see how you can call someone that's made more money than he can spend for the rest of his life a bad businessman. And don't forget - he made that money in basically four years (2004 - 2007). I wish *I* was that bad a businessman!

Excellent question and if Prince ran things normally we would have a polished Musicology Tour DVD in our hands and a one from the O2 in London. Of course this is the same guy who has his internet site black and nonexistant for a year. What the hell.

Based on what data? His own? Business estimates (which are again based on his own data)? Also, he's used to a particular lifestyle. And while he might have toned that down, he's still spending a lot of money. The operational costs for PP alone must be significant, and he is using other recording studios as well. How much was the rent of his LA mansion? You'd be amazed how fast some people burn through a lot of money. Michael Jackson was hugely successful and yet left a pile of debt. © Bart Van Hemelen

MJ left debt because, like Prince, he just didn't want to pay his bills. People also found a very good amount of money assets that he left behind as well.

Some people on here think they know how much money Prince has and how he chooses to spend or not spend it. Will the b$ ever end?

Prince is first and foremost an ARTIST. Art and business don't always match so well. Remember Mozart? I am but mad north-northwest

Then get a fucking manager! Yeah let Prince sit in the studio 24\7 if he wants. But by fucking god get someone to manage his affairs and build his legacy.

The man has a distorted look on life, he created his own 'Truth' and lacks the ability to take a step back and look a the world like us mortals do. 20 years ago, it was quite amusing, his eccentricity. It contributed to the myth he created around himself. Nowadays, it's cringeworthy and just...blah. This is just my opinion of course...
But of course, he aint | |

Back to the COST of filming a large scale stadium show: I just read that Lovesexy in Dortmund was filmed by a Dutch film company who had no less than 17 cameras filming that show not to mention the trucks and equipment they needed to similutaneously broadcast it across much of Europe that night. They had all the cameras set up to capture every dance move, every lighting effect (ladies and gentlemen, Cat!), they had cameras on cranes, above the stage looking down, every angle imaginable. So given that, don't you think this would have been a tad expensive? These days they have HD cameras and more technology, so I would expect if Prince was to commission a film company to professionally film a concert in a stadium with that level of quality, that it would be a rather expensive exercise. I am guessing Prince would want to wait until he was once again at the top of his popularity as a touring artist. Lovesexy was the hottest live act in Europe in summer 1988 and even though he wasn't selling as many records as fellow Warner act, Madonna, he was selling more concert seats at that time. I think Prince needs a killer commercial success album with hit singles, and major tour where his live show is the hottest tour with huge numbers of people going to see him. Then the time would be right for him to film a stadium show and release it to DVD. Although he may get street cred for releasing Montreux ands proving himself as a versatile artist who can also play jazz, I don't believe this is enough for Prince right now. Prince can always do the jazz festivals as he gets older. He still wants to be known as the hottest live act period. Springsteen can still sell out stadiums, why can't he? Just some thoughts... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
