mike and james had HISTORY. james known mike since he was at least 9 years old. they opened for him at apollo and other theaters and joe(mikes dad) originally wanted james to take the jackson 5 under his wings. what you saw on that stage was a culmination (sp?) of everything from 9 years old to the 24/25 year old thriller top success that mike came to be THAT NIGHT. james saw the "boy done done good!" its basically family right there. prince was "new"...and a lil shy and stand off-ish so..yeah... simple and all there is to it. | |

Oh yeah he kept repeating the same dance moves he did since the 1960's and just toured the same stage show for 50 years - the only difference was he was slowlying down with age and needed dancers around him. Outside of Rocky 4 and doing "living in america" did he even have a new song anyone heard of past 1970? | |

Only stupid Prince fans could diss James Brown. What Prince would have been without James Brown... LOL Just because Prince plays instruments doesn't make him better, Prince ain't funky like JB, Prince ain't original like JB, Prince didn't make as many R&B hits as JB, Prince didn't impact black music like JB, and Prince can't perform like JB. James Brown in his 50's was a much better performer than Prince is nowdays...And I just stop there. JB left behind him a MUCH bigger heritage. And made the biggest impact on black people's mind. JB embodied black music, he wasn't just a black artist HE WAS black music. Something Prince never achieved. And just like most black people, I'll choose James Brown over Prince anytime anyday. No question. There was black music before James Brown, and black music after James brown. How many people can say that of Prince. Prince is just barely comparable to the levels of Sly at best in terms of influence. And even Sly was an originator, not Prince. |
