It's Gorgeous. But I can't play so I wouldn't buy it. I would just wait for Prince to serenade me instead so I can melt.

It looks beautiful! Considering the rest of the guy's collection for sale, you would have to say its a fair bet that it is genuine, but you never know!

That said, check out http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eB...2500772578 - firstly it looks NOTHING like Prince's famous Telecaster - second, it ain't a Cloud either!!! Tisk, tisk!

It's fucking ugly as sin. Prince would never play such a cheesy rockers guitar. BC Rich are strictly the domain of tattoos, permed hair and slam-ons.

Plus I have never ever seen any pictures of Prince playing a BC Rich, nor this guitar. It's a fake and you can tell it a mile off.

Actually that looks very much like Prince's telecaster, except that it has the wrong scratchplate. I've seen several of the Hohner TE Prinz series that had the wrong scratchplate - the "flame" effect is too subtle and it looks almost like a plain colour scratchplate (although there is actually a kinda marbling / mottled effect on there if you look closely).

I'd say it IS probably a TE Prinz but it doesn't look enough like Prince's Hohner to make a fan go weak at the knees.

I have a Hohner tele but my scratchplate is more like Prince's (although the headstock is the uglier and more modern Hohner "pointy" headstock as opposed to the old-school Fender-style headstock on Prince's tele).

That's what I thought too. BC Rich are almost as bad as I'vebeenhad (Ibanez). lol

The tele would be a better buy than the BC Rich anyway, no doubt about it.

Nice Xmas present smile Although I guess it's a Schecter clone and not the real thing? Personally I'd prefer to spend my cash on a decent guitar rather than paying a premium for an "OK" guitar that looks a bit like Prince's. You'd get a really nice guitar for $1000 to $1500 (which I think was the price of Schecters?)

Well, I already had 6 guitars and they range from pretty nice to awesome. I just wanted to know for myself how they look and sound. I'm loving it so far. I think it's definitely worth the money.

The pink accoustic is a definate fake. Prince dont play BC Rich guitars for a start. The telecaster is close but I personally would just go out & get a a real hophner telecaster or wait till Prince sells the real thing but a copy? No way.

In fairness though, you won't get any idea of what Prince's guitars sound like from the Schecter. It has the wrong pickups for a start smile

It's still a cool present though and would look very nice on the wall!

That's true. And I'm sure his effects and amps have a lot to do with it. But considering I'll never be able to afford the real thing and they're never sold, the fact that he approves of these replicas and puts them up on his site is good enough for me. biggrin

Not the traditional one, it looks like a cheap reissue. I thought he'd painted the hohner logo on it. lol

Actually if you see Prince's tele up close, it looks just like apart from the different scratchplate. That's what the Hohner looks like! And since you can't see the headstock in that pic, you can't see if it is the new style or old style headstock.

Bear in mind, Prince's guitar is just a cheap Hohner too smile

Well if you stick some active EMGs on there, get some Princely effects like a BOSS Metalzone, digital delay, whammy pedal etc you'll get something quite close. It's all in the pickups and the effects rig.

Yeah, I remember in Guitar Player magazine back in 1999 they had Prince's whole setup mapped out in there. The pedal board was correct too cuz I checked it out when I saw him at Paisley Park earlier that month. I can't remember everything, but I know he had the out of print Boss Vibrato and a Blues Driver pedal as well. I'll try to dig it up somewhere and list it.

Yeah I have the mag too... I also thought it was cool when Larry Graham (on the old GCS website) listed the effects he uses. I ended up with sound very like his! Speaking of which, anyone wanna buy a Danelectro fabtone?

Guitar, bass, keys and drums. My best instruments would be guitar and bass I suppose, I'm equally crap on keys and drums but I get by thanks to the wonders of MIDI sequencers smile

Tron - I have an Ibanez Gem and I think it's fantastic. Lovely action, very fast to play, and I've had a go on a rare Ibanez Artist as well which was just a dream! You don't rate Ibanez then? As stated, I'm a drummer and keyboard player first and foremost, so my "expertise", such as it is, lies in those areas.

Who would be your favourite manufacturer and what would you recommend to someone at an intermediate level?

Ian - you know, I'd forgotten that we play the same instruments, its just the priorities are different, guitar and bass being my 3rd and 4th respectively! (And just in case your thinking "How does he know what I play?" I still have an email from you from way-back-when, in a time that I used to go under the name Ozric - wow, that was a long time ago!)

Ah, well Ibanez and BC Rich probably do make nice enough guitars, I guess I just associate them with guys like Steve Vai and that era of "superstrats". I find them a tad ugly.

I don't really have a favourite manufacturer, it depends what your budget was and what sort of guitar you prefer. Personally I like teles so I stick with classic Fender teles (and my Hohner haha) but I'd love something like a Parker Fly or a PRS or something. Maybe if I was a professional musician, but as a hobby that's just too expensive for me smile

I can't play Gibson guitars generally, I've never found one with a suitable shape for my small hands - the necks are always too deep, the action too high etc. Pity coz I've always wanted an ES335.

Actually, I can't say that I've ever played one. I just remember a catch phrase that this blues player used to say about Ibanez translating to I'vebeenhad. I really wanted one when I was younger actually. I'm sure they're great. They do have a heavy metal assosciation that I think has kept me from getting one. Right now I have a custom Fender Strat, a vintage Gibson Explorer, an old acoustic, a junky bass, and my new cloud guitar. I'd say overall for the money, Gibson is the best value.
