Guitar playing on Lotus Flow3r

Lotus Flow3r is hailed as the Prince rock album.
What do you think of the Prince's
guitar playing on album?
I love Prince's guitar playing overall
but i think Prince's guitar solos on
the Lotus Flow3r are not that good.
Guitar solos are not memorable in my opinion
and i think Prince can do much better.

I always love Prince's guitar playing. Nothing has to be the Classic, "Let's Go Crazy," solo.

I Love, "Boom." cool
"The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

The only person "hailing" that album as a rock album is Prince himself. The show ends there.

Album is rock but not fast energetic rock album its more a psyhodelic ode to the 60's Jimi Hendrix Expirience .
But in my opinion Purple Rain album
had much more
memorable guitar solos then Lotus.
You can hum every solo from Purple Rain cd ,all the solos have strong melodic content, but what about Lotus Flow3r ?

Maybe i sound crazy to some but Mplsound have better guitar solos then Lotus

When i heard 28 08 2007 aftershow my first thought was :Wow mind blowing guitar solos .
When i heard Lotus Flow3r i was thinking:Hmm maybe i should listen more.

Prince set a very high standard with his music and sometimes i feel his whole heart isn't there.
i felt the passion on Rainbow kids album but the last 3 albums.i don't know

Chaos and Gold are the best Prince rock albums he's ever created. Purple Rain comes in 3rd.

Chaos album would have been Amazing if I rock There 4 i am
and Dig u Better Dead and that country song were removed and
instead of those 3 songs like Empty Room
Slave to a system and
his version of R u Ready(the only heavy metal song
prince ever did intended for the aborted Margie Cox album)
could made the album a masterpiece

confused come on... almost all tracks on that album opens with a guitar flick!

C&D is kinda more Hard-Rock, I agree on that, but that's it!
BTW when C&D was released people had the same attitude towards it like people do now against LOTUSFLOWER... and look at it now... they all want another C&D album... funny.

This is why it's my favorite of Prince's more rock-oriented albums. One could argue it's too derivative, but if it sounds good to me, I don't care. I do find many of the solos to be memorable, especially on "Dreamer", "Wall Of Berlin", and "Colonized Mind". I also find that the studio versions stand up to the live versions I've heard, which is extremely rare for me. For instance, when I heard the album version of "Fury" after SNL, it was a big disappointment to me, like many other fans, because the guitar was too understated. I felt like he didn't make that same mistake on this album. I've been listening to Lotus almost daily since it came out, when I usually only listen to live bootlegs.

I love the guitar playing on Lotusflow3r biggrin.

You could say the solo's aren't very memorable because most of them are improvised, Prince's more memorable solo's were all pre-planned but on lotusflow3r he's just jamming most of the time, which I think is really cool

Well put, and I'm with U.

'Lotusflow3r' has his best playing AND tone ever on record, 2 my ears.

Did he? When did he say that?

Anyway, I think the guitar playing on Lotus is up there with his best. It's just very poignant throughout. Right up there in the mix. The solos on "Boom", "Colonized Mind" and "Wall Of Berlin" in particular are very memorable to me.

I dunno, but I think that "Wall of Berlin" is some pretty sick/fierce guitar playing . . .

nod I'm with you on that one. Not sure why this one seems
to get overlooked a lot. Maybe a lotta people can't get past the
title & how it sounded weak at the end of the song 3121.
To me this is some of the hottest guitar he's put out on
an album. Killer!

Did he? When did he say that?

In an interview before the albums were released. He also hyped MPLSound as a hearkening back to his mid-80's sound; another falsehood.

Well, MPLSound might not be as good as his mid-80s sound, but it does clearly harken back to it, so I don't see how that's a "falsehood". Lots of Linn, lots of synths, chicken grease guitar etc. "Dance 4 Me" wouldn't be out of place on Sign O The Times, nor would "No More Candy" be out of place on Controversy. "U're Gonna C Me" sounds like a remake of "When 2 R In Love" etc... (again, I'm talking sonically speaking, not whether or not it's better or worse)

"U're Gonna C Me" is a remake of "U're Gonna C Me" from One Nite Alone.

^Of course it is, but it's remade in a way that resembles the instrumentation of "When 2 R In Love" - the keyboard double bass, the slow, circular Linn pattern, the 'airy' feel etc.
