The thought of Prince hanging with the BEP's is depressing. Once upon a time he was a musician's musician and was interested in real musical artists like Santana, EW&F, Hendrix, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, etc... Now he's about the frickin' Black-Eyed Peas of the pop world??? No wonder his music quality dropped like a stone. At least we have Dirty Mind-SOOT (and all the great songs he wrote for other artists during that time).
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

He's still interested in real musical artists. The problem is Hendrix, the Beatles... they're yesterday's news, if not dead. So, who SHOULD he hang with that is modern? Who is the Hendrix of 2010?

In this world of one minute fame and sound byte fame, there is none. Consumers are ADD now. Maybe we are finally that fast paced. Take Ke$ha for instance with the high sailing Tik Tok. It will be yesterdays news fast, it will drop faster than the price of HD televisions, it will be outdated before my PC. But people still rock to Elton Jon when they want to really Feel something.

Who are the "real musical artists" he's interested in these days? Black-Eyed Peas sure as hell ain't legit.

Who should he hang with in 2010? Here are some: Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon, Devendra Banhart, TV On The Radio, Radiohead, The Hold Steady, Beck, Kings of Leon, Elvis Costello (still making great music & collaborations), Death Cab For Cutie, Joe Jackson, John Legend, Vampire Weekend, etc... Those are genuine bands/artists still writing great songs for all the right reasons.

This reminds me of a vinyl Prince bootleg I had over 20 years ago - no music, just Prince talking somewhere in Europe (Denmark maybe?) during the Dirty Mind era. Prince was saying that you only make great music when you create it for the right reasons - i.e. not so you can make your next payment on your million dollar mansion or the new Cadillac or just to be famous. Prince got away from that attitude a looonnnggggg time ago - to his musical detriment. A damn shame too.

Yes, people still rock to Elton John when they want "real" music. But every generation should have their own... I mean, people still rock to Mozart when they want to hear that, but he ain't around no more...

Hendrix once opened for the Monkees.

How does being friendly as a party with people equate to any of the crap you're talking about???

Now, he can't even go to a party???

What, do you think he's gonna lose all his musical ability because he had a conversation with Fergie???

You're wrong in that it doesn't matter who he talks to. That doesn't effect his ability to make music, or good music. Hell, he hung out with MJ a couple of times, but wasn't making his own version of "Thriller" a year later. He performed w/ Beowulf Knowles, but we've yet to hear any collaboration between them on acetate. I'm not a BEP fan by any mean, but who cares if he talks to them?

BEP used to be a real hip-hop group back in the day, then then ya know, they went pop. As far as a collab with Will, yikes - look at what happened with the collab MJ did with Will. Just cause they are hanging and talking doesn't mean anything. Maybe they sit around and make fun of forums and message boards. There are hundreds if not thousands of other artists he could do something with. And Prince doesn't need to go pop, if he really wanted to do that he could just release another Purple Rain and be popular and get paid. Just my opinion on the matter...
