[Edited 12/28/09 18:27pm] The Abolishionists and numerous anti-slavery folks, Quakers, African slaves, Native Americans, other progressive whites and europeans. In any era of historical evil there are people who are on the right side of history. And so what if Prince is off on a few historical details, you have to look at the overall message. For gods sake, American History books have gotten the "facts" wrong since declaring Columbus discovered America. Why do people get so defensive and worked up by P's political stances? Avalanche is a truly brilliant song. The Lincoln line is meant to shock the senses from years of lazy historical doldrums. By the way, Cornel West is a Prince fan and I trust his analysis of American History.[/quote] Time Out. Beef Jerky Time...sample from Eddie Murphy Trading Places Anyway back to the thread. I digged Johnny. I always thought he should have saved that cut for one of his own albums. If I remember right he played it quite a few times during a 90s tour. Could have sworn I went to a show in SF at the Bill Grahmam Auditorium and he ripped into it.

Harlepolis said: "I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races [the crowd applauds] – that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people, and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the black and white races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”
Abraham Lincoln, 1858 Doesn't sound like propaganda to me Mr.Nelson was telling it how he sees it. I think people need to come in terms with the fact that Abe was in fact a White supremacist,,,,,one funny thing about history, its awfully hard to sugarcoat. Fact: Lincoln wanted to send slaves back to Africa because he did not believe in full integration. Fact: Lincoln ran as neutral or not opposed on the "slavery issue". Fact: The Emancipation Proclamation was a strategic move that only freed the slaves in several states. Now all that being said, I believe that Lincoln was more complicated than just to be labeled a "white supremacist" in the twentieth century use of the label. And I'm sorry if this thread has been hijacked by political conversation. Sometimes you go where it takes you, and some on this site like to simplify black history, civil rights and American oppression/apartheid. They would prefer it if Prince was not controversial or thought provoking in his worldview.

I was given the cassette version of The War through the old Love4OneAnother web site for "donating" to the charity to access the 26-minute joint for free. Love4Oneanother.com back in the day streamed it via RealPlayer. Then a few months later I received from Prince's wife a copy of The War on CD when I attended an NPS Festival concert near San Francisco. Both cassette and CD are still shrink-wrapped today, some 11 years later. The War is a keeper. Keep it wrapped up.It's worth plenty on trade sites.

I got one copy of the cassette after ordering Crystal Ball. They also sent a t-shirt - I guess because they screwed up the orders so badly. I later bought the CD from 1-800-New Funk or NPG Online.
I really like The War. It's a pretty cool jam. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I have a sealed copy on cassette too.I don't think it's worth much at all. Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

I had ordered the "Exodus" cassette from 1-800-NEW-FUNK back in the mid 1990s. A few months later, "The War" cassette came in my mail all on it's own. I had not ordered it or anything. As for "Gold Nigga", a friend of mine bought it at the Prince concert when he came to my city in 1997. He bought the "Gold Nigga" CD, another friend bought "The Truth" CD single, and I bought the "Face Down" live cassette. We all bought something different so we could make each other copies. When I got my copy of "The Truth" and "Don't Play Me", it was absolutely horrible. I asked my other friend what "Gold Nigga" sounded like and he said...."Shit hop. It don't even sound like something Prince would make". I said..."That bitch is slumming with shit hop trash again, don't even make me a copy because I don't even want to hear it". As for my "Jam Of The Year/Face Down" live cassette though, I loved it. Andy is a four letter word.

Neither - it's about a car, a sweet ride (pictured on the CD art): a Buick Elektra 225 Stand at the crossroads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths...(Jeremiah 6:16) www.ancientfaithradio.com

I totally forget what I ordered from the site that my name would have been on their mailing list. I THINK it was that I had put my name in to pre-order the NewPowerPak (NewPowerSoul/GCS2000/Come 2 My House). I remember an operator calling me and asking if I still wanted the set. I told her I was going to end up just buying them all at the stores, which I ended up doing. The next time I ordered anything from them was the Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic CD in 2000. The War came out before that, so it had to be the NewPowerPak thing.

Deuce and a quarter is the car pictured on the cover. I'm lucky to have the original one with Guess who's knocking, use to listen to it a lot back in the days... "open your heart, open your mind

It's Tony M. that sets is a bit under part (compared to something like Exodus or Come). Despite Tony M's "contributions" to , it still stands as one of my favorite albums too. The segues on Goldnigga are a bit wonky but, like Exodus, if you just cut the out at first listen, you're good to go w/ good music. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it actually.
