18 and Over... I want to bone ya! This has to be in Prince's top 10 funky songs of all time!
The lyrics... the vibe... the video (although unreleased and unseen by many) is funky as hell! It's one of those songs you can put on, and cruise the town on a Friday or Saturday night. Good stuff! Hi Yo it's the BONE RANGER! Groovy! The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

This song, like many other Prince songs, is one of those songs that reflect the musical climate of the time it was written. Though it is a typical Prince song you can still hear a lot of "charts" influences,, i.e. the keyboard motif á la Dr.Dre or the rapping that is reminiscent of Snoop Dogg´s laid back early 90s style.
Prince´s music has always been a reflection of what came before him, what is going on in the now, and sometimes a glimpse into the future. This song bears a lot of similarities with what was new and hip in the early 90s, just like his 80s music bore a lot of similarities with current trends back then and yet still sounded very unique and different or sometimes he took something that was already out there and took it to another level....see early 80s synth pop/ club jams like Laid Back´s White Horse and Prince´s Erotic City. 18 and Over is a cool, catchy little song with a funny video but, even back in the 90s when it was brandnew, I thought WTF, those lyrics are a bit immature. Good song though, especially the fantastic live rendition he gave at the Paradiso in Amsterdam in March 1995, with Morris Hayes playing a mean organ and Prince on the black symbol guitar. Good times! " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Morris - What about these 2?
- What about these 2. They gonna be in my version of the VIDEO!!! When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I think you would really love the live version from 1995.The music sounds phenomenal...Morris on the organ, Michael B. and Sonny....Prince playing guitar. The lyrics may be silly but it is one of my all time favorite live songs by the old NPG. Don´t remember if he ever played it again after that. It´s the only live version I know of.The guitar part sounds a little bit like the end of Clockin the Jizz...which is also a song with silly lyrics but the music sounds good. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

there's something cute about this stage in Prince's life, flirty and charming, yet curious and vulnerable, I am glad he matured healthily since then
