Batman 20 years ago Hi y'all,
I wanted to add this picture at this thread http://prince.org/msg/7/231373 but that did not work out well. It's two scans from a TV magazine reporting about Prince recording the Batman soundtrack. It translates: NOT BAD, MAN! No more than 150.000 British Pounds our little Prince earned for three days work. Not bad, isn't it? That must have been special work. It was: in the UK Prine recorded secretly the music for the new Batman movie, starring Jack Nicolson, Kim Basinger, Michael Keaton and Jerry Hall. Prince is a big Batman fan. For that matter Prince's fee was peanuts when compared to the the actual production costs of the movie (which was about 30 million pounds). Holy Sunglasses! And: Batman tune by Prince London - Prince was in London to finish the music for the movie Batman, based on the sixties TV series. Prince appeared to have been a big fan of Batman in his childhood. Several artists had offered to write music for the movie, such as George Michael and Lionel Richie. Even Whitney Houston wanted to sing the score. Prince just took all work, including all the cash, as he earned about three quarters of a million Dutch guilders. Prince wrote a new theme song and recorded some classics, such as Baby You're A Star. The movie has been produced with a budget of 30 million dollars. Big stars in the movie are Jack Nicolson, Kim Bassinger, Michael Keaton and Jerry Hall. Batman was a big hit in the Netherlands, too. The theme - by the Dutch group The Masks - was a hit. Man I like that suite!

Good thread, although it would be been more timely back in June, when the album was released in 1989. Batman was a fun time for me. I was just out of the Navy in March of that year, getting my civilian legs back. I was LOVING "Batdance" on the radio. I went to the first evening showing when the movie came out. Some of my high school mates ended up there as well, which was fun. As the credits rolls on the screen, there were little hoops and hollars for Kim Basinger or Jack Nicholson's name. However, when Prince's name popped up, I was the one hollaring. haha Honestly....it was fun. And I loved the movie at the time. I was in full on Batman mode for the rest of 1989. Even in early 1990 when I moved to Los Angeles, I was still in Batman mode with "The Arms of Orion", etc. I had bought the sheet music to it, and was learning the song on the piano. It's one song I use to warm up on the piano still today.

^ Fun time! yeah I remember everything about Batman with joy..
the Batdance single, wow that was cool to hear Prince sing "Batman", with the Jack Nicholson dialogue, and the video was super cool. Then the Partyman video, introducing Michael Bland and Candy Dulfer, great video - and funny too. Prince making fun of MJ's chimpasee. The Batman movie, was this super cool or what, I enjoyed the darkness of this, and great acting by Jack Palance and Jack Nicholson. Prince being part of that movie, the soundtrack.. super cool - only complaint from me: Scandalous should have been replaced by Batdance - during the end credits of the movie... not to use Batdance at all in the movie was a mistake, imo. Prince 4Ever.

True. I didn't realise it was from June, I just ran into these clipping lately while I was looking for other stuff. I see it brings back many good memories!
