"Batman" was released 18 years ago today

Now I feel old.

A week after "Batman" was released, I caught some guys trying to steal my buddy's car. I chased them down and punched them out, but they ultimately got away. I called my wife immediately and said "I'M BATMAN!"

She said I was an idiot.

And there - I fixed the title!

Can't be 20 yrs - Batman the film and soundtrack came out in '89

I thought it was 2007 now? That'll be 18 yrs then, still a looong time ago!

I got the CD in the round black tin, very cool but hard to stack in my CD rack....

20 years ago, huh?

okay, give two sec and let me do some math...

we're in 2007...Batman was released in 1989...

2007 minus 1989 = 18 years...

oops, i don't find the same result.. wink

Bah nevermind, that's still long ago!!

It was released on June 19 in Europe, and June 20 in the US. So 18 years ago tomorrow and Wednesday.

It was the album that got me into Prince too - ah, the memories...

I'm watching it right now on HBO and they're at the part where Trust is playing in the parade and the Joker is hamming it up. "And now folks, it's time for who do ya trust??? Hubba hubba hubba who do ya trust???" God bless Jack Nicholson. lol

LOL I've been watching the movie since last week. I had to be about 4 when the movie came out. My dad took me and my two cousins to see it. He pretty much helped me become a Prince fan thru that..lol. I could not stop trying to sing "Trust" for the life of me. I remember this now because eventually both my cousins got really irritated and said "Veronica, shut up....please!!" And I just laughed like a moron and ate my taco... lol

1989 was the greatest year of my life so I remember the Batman album, movie, hype very well. In the fall of 1988 I started college and my roommate was a huge Prince fan. As soon as the Lovesexy tour was finished the news hit that Prince was going to take a year off to re-focus. A couple of weeks later it was announced that he was going to the Batman soundtrack. WTF??? lol

The Batman album was the first CD that I bought . smile

One of my favorite Prince moments of all times was listening to Vickie Waiting on the (at the time) brand new surround sound theater. The extended version has never been released .Can anyone explain that ???

When the movie premiered, the local radio station held a contest to win tickets to the premiere, plus the soundtrack, t-shirts, posters, etc. You had to call in and convince them of why you were most deserving of the tix. I was in 10th grade at the time, and called in and gave them a sob story about how my dog was screwed over by Batman because he was supposed to be his sidekick, and some other BS. It was pretty creative and I went on for like 10 minutes making up this story. Needless to say I won and they played the tape over and over on the morning show for like a week. lol That was a fun summer. . . nod

okay... I remember Batman
was THE FIRST VHS we ever owned
as we had just gotten a VCR

and I can recall, setting my handheld
tape recorder up next to the speaker on the TV
to record the Prince songs LOL

my mama was NOT into supporting Prince at all
and I won't old enough for allowance at that time
so I did what I had to do LOL

also, around this time... they did
a special on VH1 for Prince where they played
damn near all of his videos
once again I put my lil tape recorder to use cool
and THAT's how I fell in love with
the movie version of "I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man"
(which is why I don't really dig the album version)
once you hear it the other way, you're spoiled... well I am

okay that was a lil off topic
but trips down memory lane do that to me

Batman was the first ever Prince album (or any album!) that I heard on CD. It was a life changing moment for me. I never heard such clarity.
