What does Prince keep in "The Vault"?

Is it just unreleased music? or is it videos and photos as well? guitars or drum machines and gear

Anyone have any pictures from old magazines smile

According to several different sources, it's multiple things.

There are multiple vaults, the first of which has about a thousand songs in it, right?

And according to Kevin Smith, the person who produced Prince's vidoes at the time Smith met Prince claimed she had recorded 50 music videos with Prince (full on productions) which were just shelved in the vaults and not released to the public.

I would imagine there is just tons and tons of material at this point. I suspect due to the elaborate nature of some of the media he's placed in the vaults (full production music videos for example), that even Prince isn't crazy enough to just throw those away. He knows their eventual release will be met with quite some fanfare.

I asked PP how many unreleased albums were in the Vault at Paisley they said around 35 were finished with artwork, etc. and Prince could decide to release them anytime! Many more "songs" but they were not part of completed albums. This was sometime ago in the late 90's.

lol

I just don't buy the whole logistics argument about finding a viable business model to do this anymore.

It's not that difficult or expensive to place your music online. NIN does it all the time. There are indie acts with a fraction of Prince's budget doing it online now.

Prince could easily be selling shitloads of music online... He gave us hints of this with the NPG Music Club, but that crap he was giving us was dreadful compared to some of the stuff we know is in the vaults (if his multitude of bootlegs are any indication).

prince used to record every show and every soundcheck so i am sure there are thousands of live tapes plus rehearsal tapes plus concert movies edited and unedited and of course all the songs that are worse than the crappy ones hes been releasing and i am sure there are plenty of great songs that we all already have but he has not officially released and then there are the home sex tapes that he makes of his girlfriends and his used sex toys

"earnest" is an adjective, not a name. It's right in front of you, how can you misspell something you're looking at?

No one is being mean to you. But this whole "Oh, he has my heart" nonsense from the girls is pure delirium, not reality. Your heart needs to be with someone who knows who you are, and gives a shit about you. Not Prince. Just sayin'.

Why are we all convinced what he has in the Vault, audio/song-wise is so great?

There's a REASON it's locked away from the public.

I assume he'll revisit his old archives every so often and think "Wow, I do like bits of this song!" and stuff. Like with Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic (IIRC? He shelved that for 10 years before reusing it).

Wasnt there a rumour that somone had compiled 10 albums of unreleased music for Prince? I dont know the motive for the prevention of content release but would be cool if he had stuff organised after his passing (which i hope is a long way away). To think despite him not being around that he still had something new to provide to the loyal fans. Like we inherit certain content as a thank you with a dirty price tag. Boy am i naive....
