Small Club, Second Show That Night - The Holy Grail of bootlegs. Studio-wise, the Work It series is top notch and the three 30 Years Of Unreleased Funk sets are great starting points. It would help to know what your favorite era is and if you like studio, and/or live stuff. Also, if you prefer soundboard recordings, or are OK with audience taped shows. Start with some research and reviews too: http://thedigitalgarden.org/ and http://www.angelfire.com/jazz/ug2p/ If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

'the avenue' is a musthave.
that's the 1983 gig that debuted most of the 'purple rain' album. and of course where possible get every live show between 1979 to 1989. "girl, i gotta tell ya. that suit look like a piece of GOOD GOD wrapped up with some HAVE MERCY with a side of MMMMMPHH!!!!' - will smith.

Small Club; Moonraker or X Records
162 City Lights (Atlanta 85); Super Hero 149 City Lights (Stockholm); Super Hero 136 City Lights (New York); Super Hero Wonderboy; Moonraker City Lights (Detroit); Super Hero City Lights (Atlanta 80); Super Hero City Lights (Paris); Super Hero City Lights (Columbia); Super Hero City Lights (Saginaw); Super Hero Livesexy; Moonraker City Lights (Providence); Super Hero Rock Over Germany; Sabotage Spanish Harem; Sabotage Park Volume Two, The; Moonraker Emporium; New Power Zounds Thunder; Moonraker Avenue, The; Moonraker Budokan; Moonraker Whole Lotta Love 4 Paris; Sabotage These are basically the ones to get plus 'The Work vols.1-5' as far as studio bootlegs go. More recently 'Le Petit Prince of Monaco' series of the Monaco shows are very enjoyable as is the 'All Day, All Night, All Week' documentation of the Le Grand Palais and La Cigale shows (although there is some filler on it). I also personally love 'Neon Rendezvous' a rehearsal for the 1983 birthday show plus the actual show itself which is on the 'Purple Rush' series. This show is one of my favorites due to its inclusion of 'Our Destiny', 'Roadhouse Garden' and a fabulous version 'Neon Rendezvous'. The sound leaves a lot to be desired but the show itself is intense. How the crowd did not respond (as to Prince's obvious annoyance) enthusiastically is staggering. There's Joy In Expatriation.

Here you'll find "Noon Rendezvous" and "Gotta Shake This Feelin'", which is Purple Rain with different lyrics. Atlanta 1985 - From the fantastic City Lights set of soundboard recordings. Get this entire set. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
