Some of the boots are of great quality--don't dismiss them just because they are boots! There is another thread right now on boots...read that and then do a thread search on Prince.org for further information!

No, there isn't (Cuz there's hundreds of boots out there).

Are you talking about bootlegs or pirate copies (two very different things)

But if you tell us what you've seen, we can soon tell you what's legit
and what isn't.

Use a good discography reference like Wikipedia. If it's an official release, it'll be on there most likely.

Or just spit it out here. whistle

Try wikipedia. Look at his discography section, and work from there. His official stuff is on there. Also check dtt-lyrics.com; we've listed albums as such, plus the official NPGMC stuff, B-sides, and outtakes (which would be boots).

Nope it's real. It has the NPG stamp on it. The mid 90's are a bit muddled, because he released SO much product. Seems like more than the 80's w/ his string to protege's back then. 1800NEWFUNK is a compilation album of alleged artists that had pending albums due out. George Clinton, Mayte, NPG, and Mavis were the only ones to have their projects put out. Margie Cox just had the 12" of her song. Madhouse ever went past the first two albums (although there is a 24 leak out there).

1. Minneapolis - MPLS
2. Hollywood - George Clinton
3. Love Sign - Nona Gaye, Prince
4. If I Love You Tonight - Mayte
5. Color - The Steeles
6. Together - N.P.G.
7. Standing at the Altar - Margaret Cox
8. You Will Be Moved - Mavis Staples
9. 17 - Madhouse
10. Woman's Gotta Have It - Nona Gaye
11. Minneapolis (Reprise) - MPLS

If the CD doesn't have a WB logo/NPG logo/Paisley Park logo then it's most likely a bootleg. With the exception of The Most Beautiful Girl... singles & 1-800-NEW-FUNK which should have a logo from Bellmark. Even his side deals from the later years have NPG on them.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Let's footnote that and add that that rule applies up to Chaos And Disorder, plus The Vault, Ultimate, and The Very Best Of, plus the few Sony, EMI, and Arista releases.

Yeah, no need to worry there, I don't think anyone would bother pirating 1800NF, I imagine it's been in every bargain bin this side of 1994!

BTW - Pirate and bootleg are too separate things. An unauthorised reproduction of a legitimate official release is called a pirate copy, not a bootleg; which are more commonly unreleased material or unauthorized live recordings.

What Boris was saying is that in order for folks to know what you're asking, some terminology has to be established. This - and some specifics, help determine the how's, what's and where's.

Bootlegs are usually unauthorized, clandestine copies of recordings which have never been commercially released. At least this is what is understood in regards to Prince bootlegs.

Examples of bootlegs: Small Club, The Work, The Dawn, City Lights and Madhouse 24.

Pirate, Counterfeit or Fake is how we would refer to an item such as a non-authorized copy of a previously released commercial title.

Examples of legit releases that have been counterfeited: Madhouse 8 and 16, Goldnigga, Apollonia 6, Vanity 6 and The Family. Most of the time, these are done very well and will include the correct logos on the artwork, but fakes can be identified with some educated detective work.

Grey-area examples: The Undertaker, the MPLS-Single, 51 Hours and even the 1987 Black Album. These were either withdrawn or never commercially released, but authorized pressed copies were manufactured.

I doubt that 1-800-New-Funk has even crossed a pirate distributor's radar, since they pressed billions of those discs. It's safe to say that you have a legitimate copy.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
