Why was the Lovesexy tour so all over the place (geographically)? Okay, this is kind of a weird question, but I'm curious. Whenever I've looked at the Lovesexy (Best concert ever! Etc., etc.) tour schedule, it seems really spaced out oddly...like they were shooting the band all over the place but without really economizing on travel. For example, the tour went from Pittsburgh to Detroit to San Diego to Denver to L.A. Then it went up the West Coast and on to Canada (which makes sense) before heading back to Iowa (when it had already been in the midwest much earlier in the schedule) and then New Orleans. The tour doesn't seem to have a typical route. Or does it? I imagine tour dates were added later to recoup some of the costs lost or something like that? [Edited 12/4/09 12:18pm]

[Edited 12/4/09 12:18pm] It's been rumoured he lost lots of money on that tour, that's why he took 'Batman'. Guaranteed $'s. Also the following tour (Nude) was a stripped down affair, so there may be some truth in that.

Yeah, he was all over the place, but some shows may have been added during the course of the tour, explaining to some degree the lack of a logical course. I don't know if the band had to travel on busses while Prince flew Northwest - the road trip would be quite tedious. The money-pit on that tour was the amount of union stage hands and the elaborate set, not to mention the trucking services.

The PrinceVault folks will probably see this thread and fix map. Are you sure he played San Diego on the Lovesexy tour? It's not listed here either: http://www.prince-live.co...index.html Or here: http://sites.google.com/s...urhistory/ If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

It's listed on the Wikipedia page, though, as being on November 1. But maybe that's wrong.

Well that could have been one of the reasons I missed that show. Having a one year old at the time might have been the other reason. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I went to the Landover show (one of them) and will always remember how lame the crowd was. They only stood up during the Purple Rain stuff, and on my night he did not even do an encore. I think he didn't do one because the crowd was so lame.
I will always remember many people making fun of the cover of Lovesexy too. I worked at a record store and always tried to display the record as much as I could. Prince did not give a shit about the world, and either did I. Was a great time to be a Prince fan.

The "Lovesexy" show in Houston was my wife's first Prince show. We'd been married a little over a year, and she still didn't know why I liked Prince so much.
She didn't want to go to the show but did. And sure enough, I looked over at her during "Purple Rain" and she was waving her arms in the air with the biggest smile on her face.
