Congrats.I like Dreamer a lot except for the whole chem trail nonsense. Weirdly that Springsteen song is among a handful of his I like.
Up against Dylan ...gonna be tough just cause it's Dylan (I'm not really a fan). [Edited 12/3/09 14:16pm]

CONGRATS MR. NELSON!!!!!
Dreamer is a classic with strong lyrics. I'm shocked that it was recognized. As we all know, P gets little radio play while all the while deserving it. The album is great and the other strong track is Colonized Mind. By the way, while listening to ipod on shuffle w/over 300 prince songs) Dreamer jjust came on while I am writing this. Too cool!!!!! I will be watching Jan 31st

Prince is NEVER on a "Rock" station, be it radio or the various commercial free music stations/networks, such as Music Choice, XM, etc. He is also frequently only found in the R&B section of most record stores, etc. What's even more baffling is that often, when his music is played on an R&B channel, it's "Let's Go Crazy". Personally, I'm a Funk musician, but also Rock, R&B, Blues, Jazz, etc. I understand Prince's musical diversity makes it difficult 4 these folks to categorize him, but it's refreshing 2 see him get recognition 4 such a fantastically rockin' song such as "Dreamer".

For everyone who doubts that he'll win keep in mind he's been collecting Grammies & nominations for his work since Musicology. He's been a contender with those who've probably written him off ages ago. I think he has a good shot at this one.
When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

In the coming weeks, when it is announced who's going to perform at the Grammy's, there's about a 90% chance that person will take the trophy home. I can tell you now, it won't be Prince.

Who's it gonna be? This one's hard to predict. Certainly not Fogerty. The Boss and Dylan both have strong songs, but the Grammy's is a popularity contest as most awards shows are. Sure, it's all industry insiders and journalist's voting, but it's still about voting "conscientiously correct" and not about which song sticks to your ribs. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I thought you had to release a song in order for it to be nominated?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Very surprised and pleased that Prince is nominated! However, I have my doubts of him winning. I mean, he didn't win album of the year for Purple Rain (which is ridiculous)...I do hope he wins and more importantly performs.
Does anyone know if this award is one that will be presented, or just one that the winner will be announced?

So true. If FBM can win, this definitely has a chance. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

The major difference in the Grammys is that it's not about who's popular on the charts. It's about what the academy voters thinks is hot. I'm sure the record companies will be wining and dining the academy to sway the votes. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Officially, the song is released. It does not have to be declared a single, though for the Grammy Awards. Why else would Hall and Oates be nominated for a re-issued version of "Sarah Smile"? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Since everyone is talking about whether the song is good enough to win or not I have to add that the song has NOT been nominated for best rock song but for best vocal performance of a rock song! It's pretty irrelevant which song is better when this category is about who delivers his song best vocally.

All of these nominations late in his career are nice and all, but I just hope Prince doesn't look at it like, "I told y'all my music's hot right now. They obviously like the direction my music's going!" He's gonna think what he's been doing most of this decade is hot shit, and it IS, just in a different way.
His music has been so boring and pedestrian for a long time now with nothing but retreads of retreads. The only reason I'm still a fan is because of the boots (live and studio), and the memories of just how great, live, he really was! Call me a naysayer if y'all want, but the fact he's getting nominations and wins for the shit he's been putting out the past few years is something short of a miracle. I mean, "Future Baby Mama" won a Grammy???? If I were the other artists in that category, I'd be highly pissed! LOL!

Congrats to Prince and his crew on a well deserved nomination. I have listened to the other songs and he delivers the best vocal performance of the listed songs. Doesn't mean he will win but to my ears he has already won!!!

True...with the relatively good sales of "Diamonds and Pearls" he just went for it and sure did stink up more than a decade chasing more of that money. Prince in the 90's was just musical dumpster diving. Lets just be glad they did not nominate anything from MplSound [Edited 12/4/09 6:57am]
