This discussion started out about your stellar performance at the RRHOF but without the visuals to cement the only point necessary...it descended to Lil' Wayne.

That's a damn shame and you know it! disbelief disbelief disbelief

I hope you're satisfied! hmph!

Not that great as people tend to say..that solo was overrated (but still his performance is pretty cool!). Btw Eddie would kick Prince's ass on the guitar.. boxed

Eddie is indeed in another class of guitarists....That's not even up for debate...

But aint nothing overrated about Prince's Rock N Roll Hall of Fame exhibition....It was as great as advertised....I still say he remains very underrated on the ax...

The point is, it should be allowed to be posted here, or perhaps even on his official site, (I know, call me crazy). But no, the purple one puts his heel down and dumps on all his fans. sad

It's not like people here won't be able to find it. I'm sure most, if not everyone here has already seen it.

It would be like putting up clips of Purple Rain. If you haven't seen it by now, it's your fault.

why is Eddie Van halen better player then Prince?
because he does tapping in every solo?
what about the feel
yes Eddie played the best guitar solo in history of music (Beat It)
but Prince also have amazing solos.

Watch video of Eddie playing with Jacksons

he didn't know when to get it with his solo
so Michael had to guide him.
Eddie started solo in the wrong time.
you think that could happen to Prince master of rhythm? no way
If you wanna know how to play guitar you got to master the rhythm
without rhythm there ain't no good leads also.

Ummm, not true. Prince was sent a tape of the song weeks in advance. C'mon you must know by now Prince is the most rehearsed musician on the planet, a perfectionist. Unfortunately this takes away from the spotenaity for me but to each his own.

I have it on good word that this is b.s. Apparently tapes of the song were sent to P weeks before. It was an awesome performance..why is there a need to make it magical by saying he never heard it before he set foot on stage....yeah right. he's great but he's not exactly the most cooperative type...

tapping is quintisential 80's.....but i bet prince could get his fingers to tap...but not like eddie, never heard any one tap like that man.....

but there is a part RNR HOF performance where tom is staring at prince shaking his head looking amazed at princes guitar playing...

Prince might not be the best technicaly but IMO...he is the most emotional player in the public eye....

i agree.... now a days prince could dust evh on da frets...

Prince is a killer guitarist. But there are a number of folks, famous and otherwise, who would hand Prince his lunch on the guitar. Folks who can wrench just as much emotion and display even more mastery from a fretboard.

My list (living and departed):

Robben Ford
Doyle Bramhall II (Susannah's husband)
Jimi Hendrix
Jeff Beck
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Jesse Johnson
Godfrey Moore
Phil Keaggy (the most astounding guitarist I've ever seen)

Doyle Brahmal is excelent rhythm guitar player but
his solos are laughable
when Eric toured with 2 guitar player one was Doyle the other was that guy from Alman brothers bend Derec Trucks.

well Derec Trucks playing was executing great
fast guitar licks and inspired Claptons stale style
to the maximum.
Clapton couldn't let Derec upstage him right smile

well reviews of the concert mostly agreed that
Doyle's playing was not even good or should i
say it was pretty bad.
one friend who witnessed the concert in Hungury said that during concert from that tour at one time Eric looked at FDoyle in the style 'c'mon what the F u play. biggrin

its hard that Doyle can play anything better then Prince

if u wanna hear how great P is on guitar
the only way is to try to pick any P guitar solo and
there will be a problem.
Because almost every Prince's guitar solo have some wacky fucked up part.
what funny is that i've seen many covers of Purple Rain.
i heard a lot of players play Purple Rain from

Steve Lukather,Dave Gilmoure ,Neil ZaZa along
with that Dream Theater guy and nobody played that guitar solo even close.
and it is considered to be one of Prince's simplest guitar solos .

Prince combination of creativity, imagination and tehniq
is what makes him killer guitar player.

Prince isn't kind of player who shows you
all the tricks on guitar.
on While My Guitar he wasn't showing off ,he was just being expressive and played cool.
If he wanted he could play more jaw dropping but
he is smart enough that he already did a great job
and trust me one thing
whenever they do a Documentary about R'N'R hall of
fame that video will be shown and mentioned .

p.s Anybody notice the level of energy musicians generated with the first beat of Prince's guitar solo?

band played different in the first part of the song, second is more energetic.

p.s.
that guitar solo made Keith Richards change his mind about Prince.Keith was there in the audience ,Robert PlAnt and Lenny K
cool

It's a good solo. But, compositionally, Prince has done better. I prefer his solos from his own induction set, actually. But, rock and roll is all about attitude, and Prince had tons of attitude during that solo.

Twenty years ago, EVH would have dusted Prince. But today, Prince would leave EVH way behind.

JMHO.

hmmm Maybe.. Does Prince know how to do tapping? lol

Tapping is one thing, but knowing the ins and outs/-complete insides- of the guitar and just dedicating one's entire study/energy one a single instrument speaks much higher than Prince's here and there sparadic knowledge.

Eddie would, with out a question, would school Prince on the six string. I'd even dare to say he's technically a better pianist aswell.. not hating.. just stating

From all the todays guitar players out there he is my fav. Yeah, Stevie Vai or Malmsteen could play faster and with better technique, but Prince has "something". It's just pleasure to hear him on the guitar music

The difference between Prince and those other guitar players is emotion.

Those guys are great technically, but they're pretty much just robots.

When you listen to the solo from Purple Rain. It makes you feel something.

Malmsteen's Blue has some feeling and emotion into it, but that's pretty much it.

If we're talking feeling, Prince wouldn't be the first guitarrist to come to mind.
Slash would, Angus Young would, BB King deffiantly would..
Maybe if P's eccentric feelings were more abiding to the core of human nature, then he would stand a chance. However, though I hate to say it, I don't see blues running through his blood as much as I see funk and jazz rooted in there. Thus creating a lack of a deep element of emotion someone just has to naturally be born with.

I've always said Purple Rain was a gift from God. Only He could have guided Prince into hitting all the right heartwrenching notes of that beauty of a solo...every time he plays it.
"Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."
