I recently recieved a version of the I Wanna Be Your Lover video with the whole band performing on stage. I had seen the one with Prince playing all the instruments - is this "band version" rare?

Depends on what you mean by 'rare'

I think most die hard fans have the video. It's more comical than the original which to me was funny enough.
