First, the OP was clearly asking about the pop chart in the US, so yes, the answer is "The Most Beautiful Girl In the World" in 1994. Also, "I Hate U" and "Betcha By Golly Wow!" did not reach the top ten on "the same chart." "I Hate U" reached no. 3 on Billboard's Hot R&B singles chart. "Betcha By Golly Wow!" was not released as a commercial single in the U.S., which made it ineligible for the main R&B singles chart (due to existing chart rules at that time). It reached no. 10 on Hot R&B airplay, a separate component chart. And if we're not specifying which chart, you're still incorrect. "Call My Name" topped the Adult R&B chart in 2004. I believe he also scored a top ten on that chart with "Future Baby Mama." If you're going to nitpick, nitpick all the way... #39 on RnB Yes, which is why I specified on the Adult R&B chart.

Yeah but you said top ten Yes, "Future Baby Mama" reached the TOP TEN on the ADULT R&B chart, a SEPARATE CHART from the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs chart. Just like Adult Contemporary is different from the Hot 100. Two different charts my friend.

When I said "the same chart", I meant US R&B, and according to the Wikipedia page, both are listed on THAT chart, as I noted, making "Betcha" the last top 10 anything he had in the US. If you wanna nitpick, every damn chart ends up different anyway. Remember the hubbub over Lotus being #1 or #2 depending on the chart?

Not necessarily top 10 but the last proper release i.e. not a re-release or cover, in the UK that is, was, I think, The Holy River. So thats no proper physical release since 1996! And to think that Prince was the most successful singles artist of the 80's makes this even more perplexing.

If you wanna nitpick, every damn chart ends up different anyway. Remember the hubbub over Lotus being #1 or #2 depending on the chart? Surprisingly, Wikipedia is not always correct. "Betcha By Golly Wow!" is listed with his other main R&B top 100 hits because it looks foolish not to include such a big radio hit, but the fact remains it never appeared on the main Hot R&B singles chart, only the airplay chart. Much the same way No Doubt's "Don't Speak" topped Hot 100 airplay for 16 weeks, but never reached the Hot 100 because there was no physical, commercial single available in the US. According to Billboard chart rules at the time, songs had to be commercially released to chart on the Hot 100/Hot R&B singles chart. As the commercial singles market completely died at the end of the '90s, Billboard did away with that rule in December of 1998, allowing radio-only cuts to chart. Once downloads were added to the Hot 100 in 2005, it revitalized the sales component. The R&B chart still doesn't include downloads to this day, unfortunately. And "Future Baby Mama" remains his last "top ten anything" in the US. [Edited 11/23/09 13:45pm]

I was just explaining to Ernest what his top ten activity on other charts has been since then (since he brought it up). The fact remains that Prince's final appearance in the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart (as an artist) was "TMBGITW," a no.3 hit in the late spring/early summer of 1994. As a songwriter, he was credited on MoKenStef's "He's Mine," a no.6 hit on the Hot 100 in 1995. That song used a sample of "Do Me, Baby," which is why Prince is credited.

I believe "The Good Life" made a surprising re-entry in UK in 1997 (some years later than the original release), at # 17 or something
please correct this if I'm wrong. [Edited 11/23/09 13:54pm] Prince 4Ever.

We know he hasn't charted singles like he used to. So here's the rabbit out of the hat. Does Prince have the chops to write another classic to go all the way to number #1 on the US AND UK POP CHARTS???? Should it be his original, Should it be a cover, Should it be a duet....also for all of you Timbaland lovers forget about him producing a cut for Prince....Prince was allready doing splits when Timbalands diapers were being changed. Yount!!!
