Prince causing u problems with ur family?

Ok so i still live at home with my dad and stepmom. She's a bit childish. So back in March I told my dad about the release of the LOTUS CD and the appearances on the leno show. I had to wash dishes a whole month everyday just to watch and get that cd. I mean a LOT of dishes ,cuz shes a bit of a pig. Anyway so time came when it was time for the 2nd night of the tavis interview, she wouldnt let me see it,keep in mind we had a deal that whenever Prince came on I could watch it. So my dad came in and heard her tell me NO and well... he has a bit of a temper.. so he broke the satelite box. So there,I caused a argument. Has anyone had a similar experience?

No. I suggest that if you are over 18, out of high school, and have a job, that you should move the hell out of there and get your own place or at least move in with roommates... And if you are under 18, remember it isn't your fault what goes on between your parents--finish school and set your self up so you can move out, live your own life, and not have to deal with family anger issues--but don't get in the middle of it! razz

I don't have similar experiences. Rather only a good one, where I was teaching my friend's 8 year old daughter to dance to Lets go crazy. She loved the tune.

Keep in mind that your stepmom sounds manipulative and your Dad has a control issue. Best to stay out arguments between them, you won't learn anything. Make sure though that you don't turn out like them. Learn from their errors.
I hope you managed to get the Lotus CD and enjoyed! cool

Yeah, everything was all fine and dandy when I was a casual fan and, bearing in mind, that I got married in 1985, I was the typical dutiful wife and mother and had that as my main focus in life, everything between my family(parents mostly) was all peachy!! But then, my husband brought a computer for me with one of our tax refunds, as a belated wedding anniversary present, and I started becoming very active in the online Prince community and then my subsequent quest for all things Prince in the way of bootlegs and virtually spending every waking hour online downloading and chatting and file sharing and burning stuff to the point of ignoring my husband and son, then thats when all Hell broke loose between me and my family!!!! I have been accused of ignoring my husband and my son, which, to a large extent, looking back, I can openly say I did!! I mean, Prince, literally, took over my WHOLE life!!!!

But now its not so bad as I am more of a casual fan of him!!

Hello....
It's the 21st century.
No the dark ages of the 1980's.

Or has stuff not improved that much in certain places?

and I have burned a Prince cd to my stepmum, some of the ballads / mid tempo songs... she enjoyed the music.

Well, when I was a kid back in the 80's I cleaned the entire house for my mother so i could record the Grammies or AMA's when Prince was on. Before Prince came out my Mom decided that I hadn't quite earned the privilege to see the show, so she sent me to the basement to clean up behind her dog. I ended up hearing pieces of the show from the basement. Not that I had done anything wrong. She was a single mother and rarely at home, and when she was there she wanted to show us who was Boss. So my Mom, some of her friends and the rest of our family, were jamming it up when Prince came on and howling when Jerome came out and everyone was into the show, but I missed the entire thing. It was like 15 years later before I saw the performance, because no one in the room pressed record on the vcr! Oh I was hurt about that! So you are not alone. biggrin

That had nothing to do with Prince. It had to do with your stepmom resenting your presence and a power struggle between her and your dad.

My dad's never been keen on my P obbsession. For him, no matter how many times i would tell him other wise- Prince will always be that little man with adrogynous corrupt leanings.

However he let's me do my thing.

Interesting dance4me3121. Prince has never caused me any problems but some of his fans have tried to. I don't think Prince was the cause of the family problems here, and I'm happy Desire2006 shared her story for the people who may NOT know what obsessed looks like. I've never done any of those things in my real life, I've never neglected my self, work, family or friends, and I enjoy the attention of several charming men BUT because I joined Prince.org to add my twocents it seems to have caused a stir for some of Prince's Princi Pals and casual fans. They call me obsessed because my reality is my dream, and I'm most definitely theRight1. cool

When I was in high school back in the 80s my parents founds my stash of Hustler, Penthouse, and other porno mags. My mom, being VERY devout Catholic, thought Prince was the very reason I was looking at such "filth", and tried throwing out all my mags, Prince records, and Purple Rain poster. I retailiated by rescuing my albums and poster from the trash, and declared all out war by playing his stuff extra loud for awhile. It was all so ridiculous. They of course got over it and things went back to normal after a few weeks.
Never did get my mags back tho...I swear to this day that my dad swiped them.

Wouldn't that be clear nowadays?
Why, for what reason, would anybody get into 'problems' with family over nowadays Prince?
