the beginnig of ona tour was better?

in my opinion american leg of tour was better.funkier,darker.
i think that he began forcing horns 2 much in europien and japan part of tour.
even he replaced some of his guitar lines with horns.
2 much horns in my opinion.
los angeles concert was the best and 4 me its the best guitar moment by prince ever.
what do u other felow orgers think?

Did he perform 'The Beautiful ones' in the US. He did when I saw him in London which was a surprise cos I had a bootleg of the Chicago set and it wasn't on there. A VERY VERY PLEASENT SURPRISE. THE WHOLE TRACK, SCREAMS OF PAIN AND ALL.

that guitar moment started right with the song rainbow children(im talking abut los angeles concert)
his playing was fast,imaginative,furios.
i got a shiver when i listen 2 xenophobia from ona live ,its sounds almost epic.
a case of u also very inspiured guitar work.
maNY UNIS LINES.
SAX WAS RACIONAL not like after that part of tour.
anna stesia also had blow minding guitar work.
overall i hear many many prince concerts and nothing even come close 2
ona live in los angeles.

Both parts of the tour were amazing, IMO! For example Europe did get "The Work" and that was funky!

Europe aftershows were phenominal - Bataclan / Nighttown / Vega etc...perhaps even better than the US / Canadian aftershows. There were very few soundchecks that came close to Antwerpen. All in all four different legs to an amazing tour.

I heard it live close up a year and a half ago on the Hit n Run tour in Hollyweird. He did Controversy-Mutiny and decided to follow those two with that long drawn out JB wanna be song The Work that dragged on for ten minutes--'tha fuck outta here with that crap tune.I mean its ok as a song but not to be dragged on for more than 4 minutes. It wants to be Sexy MF so bad but it cant hang.

RD, as long as that version of "the work" was, which turned into an instrumental jam for 6 minutes, I still would not mind having that palladium show on cd or video.

So many great L.A. shows just do not exist on cd or video.

L.A. 4-19-02
HOB 4-20-02
Palladium 5-4-01
Key Club 7-28(?)-98

I hear the Irvine Meadows show of 97 is circulating..never found it tho.

Or any shows from Glam Slam from 95.

Would give my left nut for any recording of the Universal Shows of Act 1 in April of 93.

hmmm, well I have listened to a number of ONA shows, I found that LA was not all that great...out of the ones I have heard I would have to say NYC and Rotterdam shined...It seems like people r choosein the ones that THEY had attended and claim them "the best show of them all"...which I could very well do as well, the shows I attended in DC were awesome...its hard to think Prince could top himself...

so all N all without debate, Prince and his band swept over the globe and did outstanding performances world wide.

Can't comment on that Hit N'Run version. But you and I know that that tour sucked ass compared to ONA.
It's not his best-written song of course, no way, but just like "The Everlasting Now" on Leno, it had energy. IMO, at least.

Well said Pluv. What a stupid thread! Unless you have attended every concert you can't tell - even from listening to boots as atmosphere is EVERYTHING.

Im not..I said that Europe seemed to have a better set list and a better vibe..and Im going by reports of the shows from others. Most who know what they are talking about wont pick a show-song as being best just because they attended that performance.

which I could very well do as well, the shows I attended in DC were awesome...its hard to think Prince could top himself...

Well I know he did better performances than the show I attended so its not like that for everyone

so all N all without debate, Prince and his band swept over the globe and did outstanding performances world wide.

True, he did

los angeles is tight as

Having attended Canadian / US and Europe shows (+Vegas) - I can say they all had their own unique flavour (+ I have several of the Japanese shows). Europe has always been a place where Prince tears it up and he was welcomed like a "Star" - which is not what he was getting back home. He was grinding in Rotterdam and was really crazy on stage...on the other hand in North America in these lush theatres - it was so elegant! I loved it all. I think the Euro aftershows were pretty damn solid and the jams were spectacular. All in all a incredible year. Of course Xenophobia (for those who attended) was also magical. I didn't go to Vega in Copenhagen but this one is a killer! Antwerpen soundcheck is really one of the best - no BS just 90 min concert!

Vegas was off the hook! Best show I've heard and seen for the whole tour. Yes I know that's a bold statement. But I've heard almost every show of the tour.

I´ve seen quite a lot of Prince concerts but, IMHO,
ONA Hamburg was one of the tightest, slickest, most
flawless concerts ever.
Of course, Xenophobia will always be remembered as
something extra special, impossible to compare that to any
"regular" concert.
