Has Prince ever done a gospel song?

Has Prince ever done a gospel song?
His sister Tyka Nelson is a gospel singer.
I wonder if they ever work together.

Still Would Stand All Time sounds like gospel to me. Purple Rain has some elements of it too.

According to P, "Lovesexy" is his 'gospel' LP.

I would love to hear him do a 'real' gospel CD in the vein of (the 1970's era of) The Mighty Clouds Of Joy or The Hawkins Family. I'm sure he could pull it off.

he would prbably say most of his songs (maybe not the sexual ones) have in some way shape or form been inspired by God
but most songs on purple rain are gospel and the holy river

Forever In My Life from the Sign O The Times film. Killer gospel.

Really? When/where did he say that?

I came into to this post to suggest the aforementioned Still Would Stand All Time.

"4 the Tears in Your Eyes"
"The Cross"
"7"

But like SPYZFAN1 said I would like to hear him enter into some true or more traditional, praise and worship.

My husband was really confused when I was playing "Count The Days" a few weeks ago. He thought it was a gospel song, but when he heard the lyrics he was like eek

No, just songs w/ that flavor. The closest he's done is "Wade In The Water" or something like that. Didn't he cover "Mary Don't You Weep" at one point in the 90's? THOSE are gospel songs.

Yes (performed 'Mary Don't You Weep') and in rehearsal too.

Prince has a gospel thread woven throughout his career. I believe we need to look at Prince's heart, which is the tier that rises above the tangible collection of songs. cool

I would second this. The Ladder seems to be one of the closest in his catalogue to typical gospel changes, harmonies, etc. cool

That doesn't make them gospel songs, by any means. And that album would NEVER make it on Christian radio.

U Make My Sun Shine is an interesting deconstruction of gospel.

Also, his recorded version of the Joni Mitchell song A Case of You has gospel-influenced elements.

Most Prince songs are not going to fit into one genre. Its what makes him such a unique composer.
