I do not like the original Rave, Rave Remixes are okay though, especially hot with u is much better. Make a 2 cd set out of emancipation and I think it is brilliant. I really dig d2. NPS is the worst though in my humble opinion.

With different production, live drums and more guitar to
the fro, Emancipation would have been a classic. The way it is now, it just sounds the same in too many places. There are nice moments but you have to sit through strings of mediocre and silly songs to get to them. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I like the "Rave Un2" album. I especially like The Greatest Romance Ever Sold, The Sun, the Moon and Stars and Hot Wit U.

I see Rave as just a collection of songs. Some of them are exceptional (I love u but I dont trust u), and some are purely dire (Hot Wit U...did he really write those god awful lyrics???). It lacks the fluidity of a "proper" album, and his cover of Everyday is a winding Rd damn near merited a prison sentence.
It was almost a case of quantity over quality, which has sadly been the case of many of his albums from 1995-2000.

besides, New power soul is the worst thing he has ever done. actually old friends 4 sale was worse, but that doens;t count. ??? Have u listened to 5 women? or Old Friends? Man, those were real songs. And although I agree tha NPS was right down there with the worst - it did contain two good songs - whereas Rave contains none.

God, u people are so picky. I hate this and that sucks. Damn just cause u don't like a song doesn't mean it sucks. No 2 people on the org can agree on anything. Anybody who can just dismiss something like emancipation out of hand really is not a prince fan or has an extremely limited musical vocabulary. The CD is all over the map and contains something for everybody. There really isn't that great a strech between the best of prince and the worst. All he does has bits of brillance inherit in it. Leave your expectations at the door. Each is a document of a Artist at a particular moment in his career. Like any great creator there will be things u connect with and things u do not. A lot of that has to do with the perspective of the listener as oppsed to what the music contains.

Seems few people "connected" with Emancipation. I just brought my copy back yesterday to a tiny little Our Price in my town, and they have eight copies left (from 1996 on imagines) priced at £26.99. This shop really is tiny so I always think it's quite funny when I go to buy a CD there to see so many behind the shop till...

Emancipation is his worst album by far. I can't stand to listen to it, it has the crappiest production of all Prince albums.
Didn't like Rave too much either, although it does contain some good songs (TGRES, ILUBIDTUA, Strange But True, Pretty Man and Man'O'War). But most of the song are plain silly to me, it's not a coherent album and lacks flow . But after being hugely disappointed at first, I have to say that NPS (at least some of the songs, or better said: grooves) grew on me. The production may not be excellent, but some tunes are really nice to bop the head to... RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Sex In The Summer, Joint 2 Joint, The Holy River, Friend Lover Sister Mother Wife, Face Down, Style, My Computer, One Of Us, The Love We Make, Emancipation. FIFTEEN count em' FIFTEEN BRILLIANT TRACKS FROM EMANCIPATION. U can't say that each disc doesn't have at least one all time classic on it - Somebody's Somebody, The Holy River and The Love We Make. As for the other two, Rave is by no means his best but still he manages to pull off classic tunes like - P.S. "Don't hate me cuz I'm beautiful"

Rave was just a pop album aimed toward comercial appeal. I mean as a whole album it just doesn't add up, but as single it isn't that bad. I mean there is some good shit there. Well at least better than some of the other R&B crap.
It's kinda like the "high" album wouldn't hold as a full album. I still think P could have done better!

I don't dislike 'Rave' as much as some of you people do,but it clearly isn't one of his most inspired albums. There are too many "you did me wrong" ballads on it,and not enough funk. But there are a few gems..."The Sun,The Moon,And Stars" is undeniably charming, and "Silly Game" is Prince at his soulful best.In addition,"Wherever U Go,Whatever U Do" and "So Far,So Pleased" could have been Top 10 hits,if they had been released and properly promoted.

Intested: what was wrong with 1999: The new master? I don't ask defending the song, I've never heard it as it came out before I started listening to Prince... thanks Mark LMAO!!!

ILUB DTUA is brilliant!
GreatestRomance is an all time fave of mine. rediscovered Undisputed yesterday, had a wild time playing it up2 '10' on the headfones. Rave isnt as wild as the SmallCLub version but funky beat still & the guitar & Prince's screaming never hurts anyone. i think every song in its own way is brilliant . . . .not his best album, but some of his most beautiful songs on there i think. (yes april,u know tha jamaican voice on Sun Moon & Stars is groovy It is for me a reminder of Grafitti Bridge... Good individual songs but thz whole thing lacks a kick ass tune... Still it is more coherent and the Rave Unto version makes me look at the album diffferently in a more positive way... "Goodness will guide us when love is inside of us... The Force will be with you, always"
