I've just re-discovered the 'Rave Un2' album...

... and it's still the most un-inspiring, blandest album Prince has ever recorded. smile

i listened 2 Rave yesterday & it isnt his best, beats any other crap out there tho by far as far as im concerned.
ILUB eye DTUA is brilliant!
GreatestRomance is an all time fave of mine.
rediscovered Undisputed yesterday, had a wild time playing it up2 '10' on the headfones.
Rave isnt as wild as the SmallCLub version but funky beat still & the guitar & Prince's screaming never hurts anyone.

i think every song in its own way is brilliant . . . .not his best album, but some of his most beautiful songs on there i think.

(yes april,u know tha jamaican voice on Sun Moon & Stars is groovy lol )

Absolutely! 36 songs and ONE classic (The Love We Make). Not too long ago, I listened to the whole thing again just to make sure I was being fair...and I liked it even less. Particularly disappointing amid all the buildup, MTV-VH1 getting on board, interviews (I can remember when I looked forward to his interviews instead of wondering how long I'd be into one before I'd cringe). And, contrary to what I'm sure he'd say, I tend to think even he wasn't fond of this one considering that only a handful of songs were played live and even those were pretty much dropped midway through the Jam Of The Year tour...although I have to admit, I did like the version of "Dreamin About U" that was done late in that tour...never cared for Marva King but she did a good job (course it was only a verse or two)

Getting back to Rave, it also is pretty uninspired and contains his WORST song ever...that would be Hot With U and yes I hate it worse than Jughead...they're both unfortunate examples of Prince pandering BUT that Eve rap makes my skin crawl...and I like Eve!!

I'd still rather listen to Rave out of one speaker with no treble for the rest of eternity than ever even look at "1999: The New Master" again. In fact, I'd like to do so while deep-breathing the crotch fumes of Icenine's biker pants.

Intested: what was wrong with 1999: The new master?
I don't ask defending the song, I've never heard it as it came out before I started listening to Prince...
thanks

It does have a few good moments though, it's got some cool
song on it

The Greatest Romance Ever Sold
I love U but I don't trust U anymore
Pretty Man

And So Far, So Pleased and Baby Knows are ok too. But songs
like "Hot Wit U" are even worse than some stuff on NPS.

Compared to the sound he's got now it's incredible to think
that Rave was recorded only 3 years ago.

i dig "rave"... always have... it's not my absolute favorite, but i do listen to it often... i still think that a lot of people would have liked it a lot better without kirk's drum programming on it... if prince would have programmed the drums (or better yet), if michael bland would have been playing on this cd, it would have been much better in my opinion... but i still dig it...

i don't know what i would consider to be the blandest prince album...

Or his 1st. Or New Power Soul.

Leave Emancipation alone, aside from The Truth it's my fave of his from the 90's. Disc 2 is beautiful and the album is also home to Sleep Around and My Computer which are both fuckin' ace.

Rave ain't great but it ain't his worst.

bland is a nice review of the album, although rubbish would work too. It sits nicely with NPS and Emancipation as his worst albums, by far.
These albums have tiny, miniscule examples of something near Prince's full talent, but are 99.9% pure filler...
IMO

I really like this album. As a matter of fact, this is the album that got me interested in listening to Prince music again after about a 10 year hiatus. I like “Hot wit U”, but I have been listening to mainly rap for the last several years, so maybe that is why I like it. This album got me interested enough in Prince to actually go out and buy all the Prince albums that I did not have (the last one I had bought was Come) and it got me involved in Prince.org, which is a pretty cool site. Actually, Rave got me to buy TRC, which I love, so no complaints from me…

omfg Rave before TRC? Okay, to each his own, I guess. But The Work Pt 1, a horrible song?? You have lost your natural mind.

I'd rather suck battier's hog's shit through a bendie straw before listening to that overproduced tripe again. I tried to sell it back but nobody would buy. I tried to give it to them and they said they rather fuck themselves in the ear with a rusty hockey skate. Eventually, I had a bad bout of explosive diarrhea after eating a red onion and Italian sausage pizza and a chocolate malt and used the New Master as an ass cleaner. The fucking thing stopped up my second-story toilet when I flushed and flooded through the ceiling, thus damaging my Milli Vanilli cd. It was a truly horrible day in the life of a numbat.

In simple terms, 1999: The New Master sucks ass.

"Rave" is ok - but I don't understand all the hatin' towards Emancipation - great stuff. "Right Back Here In My Arms" is one of his greatest ever IMHO.
