That track and Sexual Suicide were the most played tracks off that album. One friend of mine would not stop repeating it in his car (off of my cd!)

I think it was exactly what I needed to hear from Prince at the time. Genius move to put it on there, raw, funny, funky, and unexpected.

Ok coming to the topic! You got it Jakeasaurus! I hope that you agree that this line is not in the Crystal Ball version. I agree that anyway only one version exists, what I wanted to raise, is this difference... My will is not reading people arguing....

Ugh.....its not a "song", its a jam in the studio, not even a rehearsal.....an improvised, free-flowing exercise to keep the funk flowing. It was only included on Crystal Ball to give those that might be interested a bit of insight in to how things go down in the studio with Prince.....so, you really can't judge this as a song!

lyrics set to music eek whatever you want to call it-it is a damn song lol

I hear you nurseV and have no quarrel - but let's put it like this;

You go in to your garden with a camcorder and film you and your mate larking about - that's a home movie, not some Hollywood production....which is effectively what we have here (although the purpose was different). When you listen to this track as Prince and Morris PRACTICING (which may only have passing interest to certain people - as a musician and producer myself, I find this to be an interesting piece), which is what it is, it has to be analysed in a different manner. You simply can'y apply the same sort of dissection that you would a regular Prince fully-produced track with what we have here wink

Just sayin' - no argument biggrin I'm not expecting this to change whether you like the track or not. I wonder what Prince would have done had he ever decided to expand on the idea from this session?

Ok, an off topic question for bass players (ok, kidding, it is on topic)...how do you think Prince is playing the ghost notes? Is he muting the strings with his palm? I used to think he was thumping the bass to get that sound but now it sounds to me more like he's strumming the ghost notes with his thumb.

P.S. I love the song. Call me what you like.

Prince is playing bass with leather gloves on. thats why it sounds muted. If you listen to a Prince song and you can't hear the bass notes more than likely he is wearing gloves

EH?!!!! eek Never, in all my years have I seen ANY bass player wear gloves whilst playing (except maybe fingerless gloves, but only cos it was damn cold!) and certainly never for ghosting technique!

How do you know this? Do you have any pics of Prince playing with gloves on. I don't believe you'd be able to play bass very well with something that removes most of the feeling between your fingers and the strings!

I love this song. It gives insight on how Prince creates and/or experimented with creating songs.

The 40+min jam of "Soul Psychodelicide" is another example. You gotta love to hear him jamming and creating songs.

Yeah, like Chaos & Disorder was never meant to be released...yet promotional videos were recorded and shown before it's 'foetunate' release.

Same with the Vault...he just happened to retecord a few songs just intime for this non-intentional release

The Gold Experience is another steaming pile of PR BS....it won't ever be released, no sir, no way....wait- what that on the Record Store shelf....TGE (minus the decent shiny cover)

Now you're going to give them something else to fight about...whether "Tricky" came first or "Cloreen Bacon Skin". lol

They take shit way too serious over in this section of the org. It's a song....no it isn't a song....it's a rehearsal....no it's a jam session.....it was recorded on July 16, 1984 at 8:36 p.m. and 26 seconds.....no it wasn't 26 seconds afterwards, it was 43 seconds. Who the hell cares? Whatever the hell it is, it's on the album and it either sounds good or it doesn't. lol

But there's a big difference between PR and hype (used to sell albums) and liner notes, which don't promote albums and normally just provide technical details, credits and perhaps some blurb from the artist themselves.

I ask you the same question as Brian - why would Prince lie about the origins of this tune, when its not for any sort of promotional purpose?

Yeah, cos its so unimportant to try and identify what something is, eh? wink

You might not care - that's fine. But some have expressed their view, as some do, to say whether they like it or not. Some think its not a good song - I simply suggested that its a practice session and so, perhaps, should be listened to in a different context and then we get people suggesting the liner notes are lies with nothing to substantiate the claim! Seems some care enough one way or another and, seeing as Prince warranted it being included on an album, why isn't it worth scrutiny? Perhaps subjects that bore you should be banned from the org? wink lol

At first I thought it was a waste of 15 minutes, BUT after awhile I started paying attention to the drums especially when the cymbals are crashing and Morris is going haywire. I looooove it now. So intense.
