Cowell said he picked it himself as it's one of his favourite songs and also very hard to sing, I personally don't like contestants trying to sing P songs, like what's the point? they're never going to do them justice!! and as much as I like Danyl [I even think he has a bit of a P look about him] I didn't like the way he sung it at all - he changed the words around and was all over the place!! | |

I thought it was okaaay... but I wanted to scream at him "Get your hands out of your pockets!!!" I mean WTF? How can you sing PR with your hand in your pocket, where was the passion??!!! I still think he's good. I think the X Factor takes a lot of the 'rawness' away from those people like Danyl and Jamie, and it all starts to look 'manufactured', just give me some passion rather than perfect vocals any day, if they already have a good voice it's going to come across. And Danni's comment about screaming "Don't scream" eh... Prince is known for his screaming, so if you're going to do a Prince song, and you can get away with it, yes SCREAM!! I'm so tired of blandness .... but if he can get through this and be true to himself I think Danyl has a good career ahead of him.
Oh, but doesn't it just show, again, how incredible Prince really is.... Actually, thinking about it, the tribute band Purple Rain would have blown this rendition out of the WATER... and the X Factor really has become BORING! Rant for the day [Edited 11/8/09 5:13am] | |

You don't know that. Prince himself performed on American Idol. And why would a major television show go all pirate and okay a song that they didn't have rights to? it's a shame that the only Prince song EVER done is Purple Rain. I guess the other 29 years of songs aren't worth considering. To be honest, The Beautiful Ones is a much better song to show off your vocal talents (bearing in mind this week's songs were from films)
I think Danyl did OK apart from being a bit late coming in here and there and not getting the atmosphere Prince creates with it. We ain't from Hollywood, so you know it's all good | |
