Why does Prince keep "It all" to himself?

Why on earth does Prince keep all the unreleased music, make vids and movies, and collaborate with other singers, that never see the light of day? someone told me that the reason why he does it is because he wants to keep putting out stuff even after he passes.

I bet Timing is important to Prince, he has carefully sculpted his image and what a successful journey it has been, I support his decisions and I do hope to see some of work when he's ready to show us cool

Because we dont deserve to hear it. For example, if he released a gem like Computer Blue full version, we'd get it and be on to the next outtake yearning for more...not respecting or appreciating the greatness as it should be admired. Instead we would demand more, leaving Computer Blue humped and dumped with no rag and no kiss. So why release it to the jaded? I dont blame him.

Also, some recordings don't fit the vision and concepts of certain albums/projects. Some recordings were done out of fun and just 2 go in the vault. It's like that 4 recording artists. I think Prince in many ways touched on this several times b4. Alot of great artist have created a large body of work and only released a small portion up 2 half of their body of work. It's a continuing legacy in the works. He's building his legacy. He just wants 2 touch all bases with his work. It's his art.

that someone answered your question biggrin

It's all about Prince's reputation / legacy (is that the right word?), after Prince has died.

Who knows how many Prince fans will be around at that future moment when the vaults will open.. in around 2032?

I agree that it is probably a timing thing....

When I think of poetry which is only a small part of the art that Prince shares, I don't care to show all of the poems I have jotted down just because I have said the same thing better elsewhere...

Maybe Prince is the same way. Maybe some things are rough and he waits for inspiration to sharpen a song for release. cool

Believe me, I would love to hear some of his unreleased stuff just as much as the rest of the org. I have heard a lot of the unreleased stuff, and many of those songs are among my favorites. Schoolyard and Electric Intercourse are among my top 25. I Wonder, Turn it Up, We Can Work it Out, are great songs. I can only imagine what he has that we have never heard.

Regardless, I must give Prince some leeway on this. I believe in privacy. I imagine that we all have things that we don't want others to know. It could be our deepest thoughts. It could be our personal journals. It could be our pieces of art. While I would love to hear some of Prince's other stuff, I respect and understand his decision to keep it to himself.

I should say that I am not very good at respecting it because I do listen to unreleased stuff whenever I get a chance.

I feel u on that. I think we're gonna start hearing a little more from the vault than b4 once 2013 hits. He keep hinting about 2013 and that's when the rights of his master recordings (the Warner Bros recordings released from 1978-1996/1999) begin reverting back 2 him. He start getting his rights back of those masters. Who knows, 2013 could mean alot more than we think.

Man, do you know how much music Prince has recorded?

Why the hell should he just release all his material?

There's a reason they call it unreleased and it's probably unreleased for a reason!

If he did start putting out Vault material, I could already see people bitching.

"Prince is putting out too much music!"

"Doesn't he know he has fans that can't afford to pay for all this music?"

"Trent Reznor lets his fans come in his house and take Nick-Nacks out of his living room! Prince should do that!"

And Blah, Blah, Blah!!!

Fans have never said this, and never would. 1995-1996 was a very prolific year of releases, as was 1985-1988 (with all the proteges, etc), and no one complained back then.

A lot of times your posts make my blood boil, but I have to agree with you 100% here. Plenty of people go through their whole lives creating art for themselves and loved ones, who in some ways can appreciate it most. The fact that Prince is one of the biggest icons in the world doesn't mean that he should have to release everything he makes to the public. It's his right, it's his trip. Dig?

That's what I said. I've also said that, unfortunately, it will take Prince dying before the vault is cleared out.

Right. I was agreeing with you, sorry if it seemed otherwise duh. Everything after the first sentence was meant to be directed towards OP.
