Prince Vs. Robert Palmer abt 5-7 years ago I read some review were some write was saying something to the effect of Prince channelling Rober Palmer for U Got the Look. I thought to myself that I could see where the compaison was coming from but doubted, for some reason, that Prince was spending his spare time listening to Robert Palmer. I guess I was applying stereotypes or some kinda shit...I unno what I was thinking....jsut that Prince didn't listen to Robert Palmer...I dug him myself.
Fast forward 5-7 years...and there dude is saing himeself that the song was basically a Robert Palmer Rip off. [Edited 10/27/09 5:19am]

You could sure say that those ladies in Mr Palmers videos sure had the look. Not hard to get inspired.
Sleeping bag and morning wood...yeah I wonder if Prince listened to ZZ top. I did in the days, still like one or two of their songs but hardly listen to that cd anymore. Afterburner it was. I didn't like them or even heard much of them until Back To The Futue 3. I'll always love that ditty. But then, in High School, I was in Marching band...we had a color guard. In the off-season the color guard did this rifile spinning stuff. It was for chicks...but these couple of dudes thought it would be cool to have a dude squad doing that. I thought it was...no offence...gay. My homie was all "'bout it 'bout it". I was like dude...don't do that shit. Regardless, he didn't listen. They did their "prance"/dance to a ZZ top song....that killed ZZ top for me for a good while(just like when the color guard did a show to Dream On by Aerosmith. I think I've heard that song more than aerosmith themselves cuz of that...to this day I have anxiety attack whenever I hear it), but lately they(zz top) been getting some spins on my eyepod.

[Edited 10/27/09 5:19am] Robert Palmer had a very smooth vibe when he sang R&B covers--I have a CD of his where he sang Marvin Gaye and others and I almost wore it out... He was great..but I can't imagine Prince trying to emulate Robert Palmer--I think it would be the other way around... RIP ROB!

[Edited 10/27/09 5:19am] Robert Palmer was a great artist in his time...in later years he did covers of R&B artists--I can remember one great CD I wore out singing to, that included Marvin Gaye songs... Maybe Prince sang some Robert Palmer, but so did Rob sing other people's songs! Which is common in the industry! Just enjoy! Rob did!

I would bet Prince listened to ZZ Top and was probably a fan . Prince likes the blues and those guys were basically playing the blues and just adding in a lot of synths and 80's effects. Also , back when Prince was really breaking the mainstream, ZZ Top was really big. They both cracked MTV around the same time . Sharp Dressed Man , Legs, TV Dinners ? Those are classic early 80's video hits. Prince had to be paying attention to that . Prince has also said many times that he grew up listening to both rock and R&B so you have figure it's possible.
