(I would like the) Prince Catalog on USB drive

http://www.unbeatable.co....83005.html

This would be my dream purchase.

I would love to be able to purchase Prince's entire catalog on a USB drive. Everything! All the albums, b side, extended versions, and extras like "On Night Alone - Piano" all on a single USB drive.

[EDIT: Added (I would like the) to title since this product is for the Beatles - Mars23]

yes... the design is horrible. But the concept is a good one. If Prince did it I'm sure his USB drive would be much better designed. Besides for me it's about the content.

I'm madder at the better than CD quality. Shouldn't they have added a DVD version of the albums in the box set so we could all enjoy that superior quality? confused

I think the design is rather clever. I saw this story a couple of days ago on AppleInsider, which oddly is not about the Beatles. lol

The Beatles are also planning to release their catalog online, but not on iTunes. I'd rather have the physical CD, but the Apple USB is pretty cool.

The USB is a good way to just get the whole catalog, some extras, for one flat price. I wouldn't buy Prince's because he would fuck it up.

The prince would be the obvious choice. The side of the + area, or the O on top could have to be the pull for the USB drive.

If WB took the reigns, and released just albums under the moniker of "PRINCE" up until 1996, with some extras, all the original artwork on the singles/B-sides, I think it'd be worth the money, but I wouldn't pay for $350 for it. I've bought Prince music over and over, copies upon copies of his deep purple concord jams. If it's going to be all boxed and prettied up with the same present inside again, then it better be well priced and worth it.

I was wondering when music would finally end up being marketed directly as a USB instead folks having to do it themselves.
Anybody know the lifespan and care comparisons between a USB and a compact disk?

I like the Apple design for the Beatles. What else would it have been?

This isn't the first time this type of medium has been used to sell an album. There is some sort of smart card that Walmart (and perhaps other places) sells with albums on it. You have to buy the player that will recognize it. You just changed out cards to listen to a different album. I'm sure whoever came up with this thought it'd be a great way to keep people from copying music or trading it, and created a player as a cheap gimmick to achieve that goal.

So, although not a totally new idea, it's certainly the one that's gotten the most amount of attention since U2 put out an iPod w/ their music on it. Frankly, that's what Prince should do. Hook up w/ Apple, let them rip the music in great quality, produce a purple iPod, and sell it for the regular price. I'd buy that.

but no...a $2500 iPod w/ a 40 minute video and a fancy box is his idea of a good item. pffft. As if.

I didn't know about the Walmart item.
Yeah, I think lots of times Prince tries too hard with the superfluous stuff like the Ipod and perfume and such. I would imagine this type of thing would be more successful, both to the general consumer because of practicality of such a thing, and serious collectors like us who wouldn't have a problem re-purchasing the same stuff we already have.

Frankly, a lot of Prince's non-music business ventures aren't that great. Few people liked Get Wild, or 3121 scents. It works for a lot of artists to have perfumes or colognes. Diddy, Usher, and others have had success with it. So has J-Lo, Mariah, and even Reese Witherspoon has one now. There's obviously a market for GOOD scents. Although lately, Prince hasn't been that successful with music output either, so we shouldn't be surprised as his attempts at other things to supplement his income.

if he wanted he could even include the 4 movies and videos. That would be the ultimate. I'd pay for it.

The movies should shoot the price well out of most people's range. The movies have been released in widescreen w/ some extras, except SOTT. (And you can only do so much with Graffiti Bridge anyway). There'd be a lot of cussin' and discussin' about format, players, codecs, compression, etc. Movies are better off left on DVDs.

I don't want to have all of everything he's ever produced. What's the fun in having everything. Sounds boring with nothing left to look forward to.
