Here's my personal take.


Prince grew up in a very repressed environment, steeped in religion and other machismo influences. If he was gay (hypothetically speaking), it's very likely that these influences would be powerful enough for him to avoid the topic or to claim heterosexuality.
Liberace employed the exact same tactic--only we KNOW Liberace was gay.

The difference is that Liberace wasn't a lady's man. There's no indication that he was ever obsessed with ANY woman, whereas Prince wrote a 3-CD opus to a woman.

Needless to say, if he was gay, he probably would have still written Emancipation to Mayte. I think his focus and drive at this point are sufficient enough to override any internal feelings of homosexuality that he'd hypothetically posses.


It's interesting that George Michael being 'outed' only slightly changed the nature of his music and career. The songs remained pretty much the same as far as subject matter.
