Right, some of the stuff from the original script was used and filmed 4 the movie. I even heard that there is still 2 deleted music performances from First Avenue and one of them was of the unreleased cut 'Electric Intercource'.  | |

I'm assuming that you were talking about the Purple Rain DVD interview which talks about "100 songs recorded for Purple Rain". Those weren't secreted away, they were used on the various projects I mentioned. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

The 100 songs that Prince played 4 albert 4 Purple Rain film may have been various of material recorded leading up 2 the film including material intended 4 other artists 4 other projects as well as his own. Note, 'When Doves Cry', 'Take Me With U', and 'Purple Rain' were some of the many tracks that was not included as part of the 100 songs. So, I'll assume that recordings from the early part going in2 the summer of 1983 was part of the 100 songs. | |

I always felt that the deleted scene is gonna make the movie even better now. It makes the movie make more sense. Don't get me wrong, it would be a longer movie but, it will be well worth it (I think). Plus, it's a great extended version just like alot of Prince classic songs during the 80's. Purple Rain (the film and album) was a well edited. If u like the movie now, include the deleted stuff and I think people will like the movie even more. I think the same about the album as well. | |

Some more PR outtakes include: Apollonia grinning at someone (presumably Prince) on a sidewalk, Apollonia running down a dark alley, The Kid and Apollonia falling onto his bed, and Morris violently grabbing Apollonia from behind. When Prince is running under the white tent, it's him going into the rehearsal hall when A6 is rehearsing, to cause a scene. Also, (I think) that cab is actually the yellow car that Morris Day and JB rides in thru out the film. It's seen in the beginning of the film during the 'Let's Go Crazy' performance. | |

I saw it in the theater in 1994 too. There were no scenes then that didn't make it onto the DVD. Maybe you were at a special screening. Actually, it was showning during it's original release in theaters. Serveral films were done like this: During it's original release in theaters, u would see a film and it maybe 2 and a half hours (nearly 3 hours) long. After a certain time (maybe not long after it's openning week) another version of the film appear (which is now like a hour and a half, going towards two hours long) and that's the one that appears and released on VHS/DVD/Blu-Ray as the film and those scenes that were cut out maybe used as bonus/alternate/deleted scenes. I saw something like this happen again 2 a film back in 2001. I even posted about this stuff on housequake.com when the deleted scenes were once again being discussed. | |

There is those rare 'Purple Rain' pix that appears in DVDs (the original 1997 dvd and the 2004 20th anniversary edition) is even more of a tease as well that there r deleted scenes. There is so many alternate and delete scenes. We can talk about this stuff all day and night. LOL! I like the version of the film that was nearly 3 hours. It made the film better. I'm not doubting your memory of the film you saw. Never heard of this before your posts. Maybe blackguitaristz can shed some light on this as he was at the Hollywood premier of Purple Rain. I think the rehearsal w/ Jellybean hitting Prince is for Apollonia 6. You can see Susan and Brenda in the background, and it would make sense. He was outside the warehouse during "When Doves Cry", so he could have went in there and tried to get her to leave Morris' group, and Jellybean steps in. Yeah, that scene of The Kid running under a tent was part of the Apollonia 6 rehearsal scene where The Kid gets in2 an altercation with members of The Time. If I recall, the scene starts with a zoom in of Apollonia as she start the rehearsal 'Sex Shooter'. | |
