The Vault-She Spoke to Me- More Cool Prince Jazz If like me your currently loving Xpectations and want to experience some more in the same stlye, take a trip back to 99 and dig out The Vault (Old Friends For Sale). Track 3 She Spoke to Me is 8 mins 20 seconds of pure heaven. The fist half of the song has Prince's mellow falsetto vocal (kinda like Strollin from Diamonds and Pearls) but the real treat is the second half of the track which slips into a seriously cool Jazz instrumental.
Put the track on, sit back relax...enjoy!

I love this song. It's definitely one of his best. In fact, I quite enjoy the entire "vault" cd except for "my little pill".

Agree! I also love When the Lights Go Down, especially the rhythm and the piano. ________________________________________________

I feel the same way about Vault, kisscamille. That song gets my skip button every time. I am MrVictor....

I agree entirely, I have always loved the edited Vault album (skip past those nasty songs like My Little Pill and even Old Friends for Sale) always thought of the jazz vibe as a great direction for prince and could never understand why the album got such a slating. Not surprisingly the latest stuff has made me rather happy indeed. There are some cool piano tracks on the end of a bootleg that had a lot of the Vault material on it too, written by his father (or so the credits describe). I forget what it was called though.

All of you are right, truely another one of his 'many' unrecognized great songs. I think The Vault (though a contractual obligation) was a glimpse into the future. I haven't heard Xpectation yet, but I'm sure if you play TRC, The Vault and Xpectation together, you get a strong Cool-Jazz groove. My favortie kind of music. Blue Times...times Blue

I guess most of us were disappointed with the vault because it seemed to promise a lot more than it delivered, but on reflection there are a few great songs on there.
I loved that prince put Extraordinary on ONA live as I think this was a great song (although alittle short on the vault), and 5 women and she spoke to me are good songs too.

My fav off the Vault is When the Lights Go Down, although I don't know many others who like it that much. Check out The Mountains and the Sea, a Prince podcast by yours truly and my wife. More info at https://www.facebook.com/TMATSPodcast/

I agree with you, Doozer. "When the Lights Go Down" is the centrepiece of that album.
