bob geldoff mentioned the situation in his autobiography i think. P had announced his retirement from touring a few months b4 the concert/s announcement, so the '4the tears in your eyes' vid seemed the best compromise i imagine.

Shame it wasn't included on the Live Aid DVD though.

I was quite upset that Prince wasn't included on the DVD. I was also upset that one of Madonna's best lines was edited out. The Live Aid concert happened very shortly after nude pics of Madonna had surfaced in Penthouse or whatever. Madonna said to the international audience, "I ain't takin' shit off today" before she broke into her set.

Also, Patti LaBelle's set is edited down. She did more songs, and better songs, than what was on the DVD. I love that section of the show though. It went from Patti, to Hall & Oates with The Temptations. Then Hall & Oates served as backup band for Tina Turner and Mick Jagger (who did "State of Shock" from The Jacksons, among other songs).

Prince got a very fleeting mention, I think by Bono, when interviewed backstage after his performance.

(Good to see you around Andy. I hope you are well. Are you in touch with Nana?).
