I was thinking of this on 8/3 been 26 years already. These tracks were monumental. One of my favorite shows to watch. Legendary..
Thanks! "

So after the show, if you're not too tired, would you do some folks a solid and use your time machine to stop Hitler? If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Awesome show.
And had I'd been there, I would've yelled something to make my mark on the final recording of the Soundtrack.

Is this THE performance that is used as the main live track for sone of the Purple Rain album tracks.
I have to admit I have never seen nor heard it in it's raw form. I think I've got the original rehearsal version of Electric Intercourse (the "wake up Wendy" one). I must try to get this one of these days Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I must try to get this one of these days Wendy's debut on stage, too. The audio bootlegs of the show are taken from the circulating video's sound track. So the original boot's sound is mono, but has been tweaked over the years. Purple Rush Volume 5 has this show. It's pretty easy to find. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Looking at the date and the songs he performed.. He played some songs long before the Purple Rain album came out.
When did he first start playing songs from the Purple Rain album? Anyone?

When did he first start playing songs from the Purple Rain album? Anyone? The filming of Purple Rain started only about three months after this performance. Most of the songs from this show were slated for inclusion on the album's soundtrack. Prince had a mobile studio parked outside of First Avenue that night to capture the audio with the right equipment and professional technicians. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Yep, very cool performance. It's very cool to see, for me anyways, the original solo to Purple Rain unedited. P did a good job picking and choosing which parts to edit together for the solo that appears on the album. And then it's THAT edited version of the solo on the album that P then expanded upon but at the same time, staying very true to during his live performances. The thing that always struck me the most with this performance is the crowd response. There were some true die hards present, like the girl right in the front row. You could tell that she knew P's material before Purple Rain by her singing along and the way she grooved to the music. Hell, she was even bobbing along to the new material. But the ones who really stood out to me were the two tall dudes also in the front. I would bet money that was their first Prince concert because the look they had on their faces....Couldn't tell if they really even liked Prince or not. They were like statues through the whole show, carefully observing P's every move. When I first saw them, I thought "Those are Prince virgins". That's a nickname I used to call people back in the early 80's that had never seen P live before but then experienced their first P concert. I saw tons of cats that looked and acted just like those 2 dudes on the Purple Rain shows that I went to out here in L.A. Back then, people usually weren't too sure what to expect from Prince and P was very wild. P has to break them in and he's not soft or easy with his audience virgins. P was rather subdued on this performance compared to others though. I had seen this performance enough for me to study the audience reaction to P. Especially to the newer material. It was a trip to hear this "Huh?" type of response to Let's Go Crazy. The girls loved "Electric Intercourse" though. I wish P would have released this live recording with all the girls screaming intact as a b-side to Take Me With U or something. I'll have to check my Purple Rush folder, I don't think I have this one. Thinking about it though I think it's a rehearsal video that contains the basic tracks that were used for the Purple Rain soundtrack and movie audio. I've never really collected video boots, New DVD versions do appeal but there's no way I'm buying anything unofficial. Have no DVD burner so download is not really an option. Oh well, I'll live. Just somewhere in the middle,

I think you're thinking of a live recording of Let's Go Crazy that was recorded at "The Warehouse" that was the basic track used on the album. But the live track of PR from this show is definately the basic track which appeared on the album. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Thanks bg, you are right. I think I disassociated the 2 because my brain would not let me believe that this was Wendy's live debut on PR (the song). That opening guitar chord sequence is so linked to the image of her playing it in the movie... big responsibility. Just somewhere in the middle,

The last song performed , DMSR, is one of the absolute highlights of Prince's live career. It's extremely funky and funny when he's impersonating some other megastar of the moment...

From a technical point of view Prince has done far better shows but in terms of raw energy and just putting everything in - the gig can't be touched.
Career best versions of Computer Blue, Automatic & DMSR plus Electric Intercouse thrown in. ...good stuff. "gimme some horns!"

It must have been really humid because Prince was sweating his ass off, which is weird because I have never seen Prince sweat..lol
Electric Intercourse, the video version and a Case Of You are truly stunning moments in Prince history. The whole thing is great, but EI was never played again. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I think this has to be THE DEFINITVE PRINCE DVD BOOT awesome set-list, the sweaty club like rock tone is just plain astounding and the encore is possibly one of his best ever. Absoutely adore this show
