Prince @ 1st Avenue 6.7.1984*Birthday Show

One of his hottest shows, this whole set to me was a representation of the energy that came from the Purple Rain sessions

17 Days
Our Destiny
Roadhouse Garden
"Wendy wants 2 live 4ever"
Up All Day, Up All Night
Free
Noon Rendezvous ( I really like this rendition)
"Dedicated 2 that Sheila E dame over there"
Erotic City ( I love the rock touch to this...All the Critics Love U...)
Something In the Water Does Not Compute (this song was just extremely wild)
When Doves Cry
"Happy Birthday 2 Prince"
Irresistable Bitch
Possessed

"You'll have 2 excuse us, we just dancin" Prince during Roadhouse Garden

Favorite show of all time. No contest. Always just clicked perfectly - the song selection, the vibe - would give anything to go back in time and be there.

Funny though, I haven't listened to it in a year or more. I always try to ration my favorites, so they don't get stale on me. Think it's time for another spin.

Nice pics too - don't think I've seen pics from this night before.

I know what you mean, I go thru musical periods just to keep it all fresh, but with so many songs unreleased & released & live as well as the protege albums I love:the Time, Sheila E the Family Vanity 6 Jill Mazarati

That is one of my favorite shows, you could feel the greatness
the 83 show where Wendy had her debut and Electic Intercourse was performed was magic too

sadly, i think the best u can xpect now is a 20 second clip as part of a 'sampler' solo keyboard set. (if he's feelin xtra wicked he might give u 20 seconds of 'darling nikki' 2 !)

EROTIC CITY COME ALIVE

He did perform it recently at his house (was it a listening party?) The band played it for a while but he never sang, then gave the audience a teasing smile and switched to another song. I think he wants to go further wink I hope he does, cause weither performed like the album cut or rocking like they did at this show and Prince & the Revolution tore that song up, that is one of his signature song that song represents the Minneapolis sound

I had a poster of one of these.

This is awesome.

Now is this the actual birthday concert or is it the night of the PR prmemiere? The perfomance of 3 songs?

The stockings as arm gloves and the new threads was an unexpected look.

Wow I'm just realizing we're in about to observe the 25th birthday of Purple Rain and all it brought.

I love that show! This is actually the sample we got of a possible follow-up 2 Purple Rain, right before the 'Purple Rain' album was even out. Cuts like Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden, and 'All Day and All Night' could have possibly been intended 4 the 'Around The World In A Day' album but, who knows. That's still a great show, all of Prince's shows at First Avenue are classic Prince shows. Even as far back as 1982 from when he debuted 'All The Critis Love You In New York' and he jammed with The Time. I bet the unreleased/not-circulating show in 1981 was good, that's where he debuted the track 'Controversy'? Could that show be in tha vault somewhere?
