NUDE TOUR HISTORY

Just found this on Wikipedia:

After the stability of the previous two tours with the band line-up remaining virtually unchanged, Prince rearranged the band with the departures of Boni Boyer, Cat, Sheila E. and dropping the horn section. Michael Bland was added on drums, Rosie Gaines took over on keyboards and organ, and a trio of dancers known as the Game Boyz rounded out the new band. With the exception of Fink and Miko, this was the make-up of the original New Power Generation line-up.

The addition of The Game Boyz caused much upheaval in the Prince camp. They first came to Prince's attention in 1983 during the filming of Purple Rain, Mosely, Johnson and Dickson can be seen dancing during various performances at the First Avenue club. The trio continued to associate with Prince over the years, dancing as a group in the music videos for "Glam Slam" and with the band Madhouse. Around the time of Graffiti Bridge, Prince recruited the trio for the film and his touring band.

Many questioned Prince's choice to begin courting the hip hop audience through the addition of The Game Boyz and the increased contribution of Mosely's rapping on future Prince tracks despite the belief that Tony Mosely's rapping ability was sub par. Previously, Prince was negative towards rap music dismissing it as a fad, as noted by the songs "Bob George" and "Dead on It" from The Black Album.

Furthermore, Rosie Gaines complained that she was being mistreated by the dance trio. Tension developed between Gaines and Prince, as instead of disciplining the dancers, he simply removed Gaines from the tour bus and placed her on Mavis Staples' tour bus.[1]

After the tour, the last remaining members from the Revolution, guitarist Miko Weaver and keys Doctor Fink, left the group. Miko's departure was especially dramatic. During pre-tour rehearsals, Prince had a number of conflicts with band members, but particularly with Miko. According to several members of the group, Prince felt threatened by Miko's good looks and popularity with the women. "Prince didn't like the fact that Miko was getting women as much as [Prince] was/On the road, Miko would have five or six women in his room, and some of them would want to go with Miko instead of Prince."[2] The tension boiled over when Prince kept picking on Miko, asking him to turn his guitar down and yelling at him. After back and forth arguing, Prince challenged him "to take this shit outside?" to which Miko retorted, "Yeah like I'm gonna come outside with you and your bodyguards." Miko walked out and briefly quit over the incident, but later rejoined the band at the last minute for the tour.[3]

Mavis Staples went on tour as an opening act.

Is that true ?

Never heard the story 'bout Miko & Rosie... !

Someone knows something else 'bout the genesis of the Nude Tour... ?

I guess Miko got the women during the other tours in the 80s because The Nude Tour had not begun..

Plus, that is kind of an opinion from someone who shall remain nameless forever, and will not come forward to stand on his words..

Prince does not seem like he would fool-around with random "Tour Groupies" on his tours anyway. Maybe, earlier..

He never scraped his women from the back stage floors..

They were already models, actresses, or beauties who were already near the inside of the game.

He kept his name clean in that regard..

People love this stuff. When I first read about this incident years ago, I did not believe it then.

Prince was just a tough, arrogant, successful, boss, and you better not play foolishly during rehearsals.. (or something else happened between them that nobody knows about, but those two..)

The same thing happened with John Blackwell, and he returned to The NPG!

With no major "Prince Tour" in a bad economy, I doubt that he's pulling those fat "Musicology checks".

Exaggerations aside, Miko's supposed comments about "you and your bodyguards" is hilarious...lolololol.

Not to pick holes but what makes you say Prince and John Blackwell had a fall-out?

From what I can tell/read, they've always had a very amicable relationship. nod

^^Not only that, but I'm quite sure Justin Timberlake paid Blackwell with the Futuresex/Lovesounds Tour more than Prince did on Musicology. Prince is notorious for not paying his band members top price (those Musicology checks weren't THAT fat). And seeing as how JB was his drummer, I'm sure Timberlake offered a good amount of dough to have him on his tour.

This from thedatabank.org on Nude Tour Rehearsals:

"...The band kicks up Baby I'm A Star, and Prince & Miko get into a conversation about Miko's guitar (although you have to turn the volume up FULL for it to be barely audible as they are away from their mic's). Prince says "Just what I thought, punk!", Miko walks off the stage, and Prince turns and shouts, "What did you say!!??", then goes storming off after him, and you see them underneath the stage and can hear raised voices (especially Prince's), as the Game Boyz (oh lawd) gather round, the rehearsal cuts off...."

John said so in an interview around 3-4 years ago.

He returned to The Musicology Tour after the death of his daughter, and made some mistakes during rehearsals..

Prince gave him time off, but he should have replaced him so that he could grieve properly..

Either way, they are cool now..

You know about as much as I do about “The Musicology Tour” checks..

I know that there have been reports that Prince pays very well, but he wants you to be on time, not high, and ready to work hard.

I won't doubt that Justin probably had to overpay for Blackwell because Prince had him on retainer (He said so).. That means "pay-on-stand-by".

If you noticed.. Justin wanted a Prince vibe, and a "Musicology Tour" feel to his tour.. He probably met Blackwell and one of Prince's "3121' parties in 2005.

Prince was not touring at the time, so he placed a higher bid.. and Prince did not block Blackwell from touring with someone else..

There were no mythical “Prince captive contracts” or anything..

He still had Blackwell on retainer after they "stormed off"..

Prince has done some unclean things, but liar-fanatics are just spreading insanity because it draws attention to themselves.. It is really a shame that one would have to stoop so low on the internet.

You people need to stop with the slander...

Have some proof, and not gossip and tall-tales.

Blackwell is still with the man for some reason that does not mesh with what you all are spewing here..

IIRC Boni Boyer also got insulted during the Lovesexy days.

Dunno about that, but Miko had been wanting to get out for a while, because he was sick of not getting paid for contributions he made during rehearsals (i.e. he was sick of seeing his licks from jam sessions end up in songs without credit or getting paid for it).

And yet Levi had to sue him for unpaid royalties, but had to settle out of court because Prince had dragged the lawsuit so long Levi ran out of money.

Yeah, it's purely a coincidence that so many previous associates don't wanna deal with him again, and the few that do get burned. Ask Eric Leeds or Rosie Gaines...

How come so many former associates keep schtum? Gag orders ain't helping, but there's also the problem that they rely on those royalty cheques and Prince just might "forget" to sign theirs if they spill the beans.

Tell 'em, Bart! lol

Not to mention that BS line about having proof. Linn just stated a couple of things as if they were facts with no proof to back that shit up either, so I guess we all just don't really know. I was just basing it on his prior history with band members and paying them, which has been, on record, not as much as it should be (to be nice).
