Diamonds & Pearls & Sign O' The Times

I have a question.Me being born in 92'(The Love Symbol Era) I never knew the reception of D & P. Was it Prince best album since Sign O' The Times?Or was this album better than SOTT?Now I love both of these albums, but I would have to go with SOTT. Did Diamonds & Pearls get the same attention as SOTT?

Good 2 b back, but the question was, did D & P get the same attention as SOTT when it(D & P) came out?

I remember Diamonds and Pearls being a commercial success and it had a few hit singles. I'm also pretty sure it sold more than SOTT. However, the latter album was definitely more critically acclaimed and for good reason.

D&P was his biggest commercial success since Purple Rain as far as I remember and spawned a number one single in Cream.

SOTT was much more of a critical success but didn't sell like D&P.

D&P was and is seen as Prince following the musical trends of the time, whereas with SOTT he was marching to his own beat.

sign was bigger among fans, and d&p among the public
i remember a lot of ppl not liking prince in the '80s really liking d&p
d&p had three usa hits in a row which prince hadn't done since purple rain
he definitely put A TON of effort into hyping d&p
(videos, choreography, photo shoots, tours & other performances)

from what i remember

Diamonda and Pearls certainly sold better. It was I feel the last time Prince sold music just like another popstar i.e. not judged for being Prince and the proceeding tour was huge. I saw it three times in the UK. Sign of the Times was critcallly massive-I didnt read one bad review. In terms of sales does anyone think SOTT would have sold more if it were cheaper. I remember in 1987 in the UK it was £16.99 that would be about $25 or 19 euros. In the day that was quite a lot particularly as you could buy a double CD today cheaper in absolute terms let alone if you equate in inflationary factors

D&P was Prince's biggest album since Purple Rain.

Commercially speaking of course.

I guess just following Prince's career is loving every album..."Sign 'o' the times," is longer. Both albums are great for the Prince fan. How many records were sold only matters to Prince, not his fans. cool

Firstly I bought D&P, but it was Sigh~ to have watched Super Live.
