Nah, not really. Not if you know anything about Anxiety. I KNOW he doesn't want to hear this shit, ESPECIALLY coming from me, but fuck it. Anxiety has never tripped off of me on here so...What he's saying has relevance strictly because he's a hardcore fan of Bowie's as well as P. So simply because of THAT, u would have thought he would have noticed these two album covers being similar...Both pics are in black and white, both features Bowie and P utilizing their hands... Anxiety wrote a serious article years ago that appeared in Uptown magazine that I myself read and was impressed by. Years before this site even existed. The content of the article dealt with the similarity of Purple Rain and Ziggy Stardust. And it was in depth too. It was a good article. Anx brought up good points from the song titles to the themes and concepts, the whole 9. He even touched on the album covers. So nah, it makes PERFECT sense to me how he would feel funny NOT noticing Heroes and Parade. biggrin Him of all people.

First off, I'm digging your orgname. wink Second, I myself have written a few threads on here over the years on Tim Curry's character Frank n' Furter and how much of an imapct it had on P's image and mannerisms. Especially during his live shows from Dirty Mind on through the 1999 tours. Also the song Frank n' Furter sings "I'm Coming Home"...as much as that sounds like Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here",... It's always reminded me of flashes of Purple Rain and P's facial expressions during this song, especially during 84/85 is pure Tim Curry.

Thanks smile

Would have been interesting to see Prince playing live wearing rubber gloves - I'm going to do a search and find your previous threads smile

Yeah, playing in the rubber gloves wasn't going to happen! BUT, on the Dirty Mind tour, P started wearing a woman's glove with the fingertips cut out, ala Frank n' Furter. When Wendy joined the band, her and Lisa always reminded me of Columbia and Magenta.

hey, thanks! and yeah, i do have a special interest in the similarities between prince and bowie, being that i'm a huge fan of both and i think they have strong parallels to each other creatively (and their contrasts to each other are just as compelling).

i wrote that article for uptown years ago...i think it was 1999 or 2000 when it was published...and you can find it on a bowie fan site called "five years" which is devoted to his ziggy-era output. that article frustrates me to this day because i was in the middle of a move when i wrote it and because of the deadline, i wasn't able to really polish it or finish it to my satisfaction. but folks seem to get something out of it, so that's cool enough for me.

anyway, i'm not at all saying that prince copied bowie's pose for the album cover - i think it was total coincidence - but it's a very cool coincidence, at least in my opinion. i don't think the albums are all that similar to each other, except that both have a very european feel to them, and both have a patchwork of styles and sounds crammed into the space of each album. "heroes" was the result of bowie's time in berlin and parade was the result of prince's time in france, maybe? i'm reaching, but i have fun reaching where they're concerned. it's my little self-indulgence. sue me! lol

to be fair, bowie does have a challenge of picking and choosing influences and repurposing them for his own work. it's relatively subtle, but it's also something he's fairly notorious for. however, to say bowie has no talent is just embarrassing for the person who said it. however he got to where he got with his music, the end result has been massively influential and if anyone doubts that, they might as well go back to sticking their heads in the sand.
