Guitar World November 1994

I finally found these scans. Some folks a while back asked about this issue in regards to Prince's rigs and the technical stuff. I'm including the whole article because it's a good read. Nice insights into that period of P's studio work and WB issues. Prince's interview is, well... typical.

This issue was supposed to have The Undertaker CD attached to it.

I liked this article a lot when it first came out, but one thing bothered the hell out of me: the use of "O+>" in quotes from people (such as when Michael B. says, "Right now O+> doesn’t trust any soundman... O+> is a very hands-on person."

O+> was unpronouncable, so what the hell did Michael B. really say? It made me not trust the accuracy of any of their quotes. Or worse, made it seem like the article had been vetted by Prince's camp before it went to print.

In part of the article it says that Paisley Park staff referred to him as "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" like it was nothing. lol So maybe they replaced when folks said that with the Symbol. Still quite silly.

Nice post. This article was chock full of tantalizing news back when it came out. I was 16 and at the height of my Prince obsession, dreaming of the Gold Experience's eventual release. I remember reading it over and over again and being thrilled when I found a cassette copy of the Undertaker a couple of months later.

I'll take my time to read this tomorrow, 'cause it's quite late over here now, but I'm telling ya: I'm looking forward to it. And playing those licks and all that.

Thank you very very much.

Warner Bros had the CDs destroyed by coating them before the issue was put on newsstands. But this is the issue that would have carried the disc, had WB not pulled the plug.

No CDs were officially released, but some got out and cleaned up (see Marketplace Forum).
