The Tina, LaToya and Elvis covers you mentioned aren't that much of a surprise.
There are quite a few mis-facts on that page too. Whoever wrote it needs to do their homework.

The list of covers is extremely long and constantly growing. I had a Prince Versus The World playlist on my ipod. It had Prince's version of a song then the cover versions. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Oh please, get real. No point saying that if you aren't gonna name someone that has been covered more. I'm not claiming that post to be true though. I would certainly think that Michael Jackson has been covered more. Especially if you include the people who audition on those talent shows LOL. |

I would say Prince is probably the most covered artist of his generation. I can find two covers of one obscure Prince tracks easily in my record collection. Plus if you count all the songs he wrote for others that got covered then he's definitely up there. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Thnx Militant...so if BARTVANHELMET read whats written, i clearly said "probably" & "..of his generation" wasnt meant to be factual...didnt say he was..i have no clue who is...if he feels the need to oppose, well cough up some proof of who is & school da rest of us or just let it rest. Quickly skimming the top of the list, a lot of them are live covers from bootleg releases. Also stuff like this: The Hits 1
"I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man," from the Prince album "Dream Factory", was covered on the Prince album "The Hits 1."

P may not be the most covered artist ever but a shit load of people have covered his music and I think this news kills a lot of the haters on this board. Somebody thinks P songs are pretty damm good or they would not have be coverd so often.

Joni Mitchell,
The song "Both Sides Now" alone was covered by 647 artists, and that's only one of her songs, here's a list in descending order of most covered... 1) Both Sides Now (647 times) 2) Big Yellow Taxi (252) 3) Woodstock (194) 4) River (180) 5) The Circle Game (149) 6) A Case Of You (133) 7) Chelsea Morning (85) 8) All I Want (64) 9) Urge For Going (64) 10) Carey (59) 11) Twisted (58) 12) The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines (42) 13) For Free (41) 14) Blue (38) 15) Help Me (38) 16) Free Man In Paris (32) 17) Goodbye Pork Pie Hat (31) 18) This Flight Tonight (31) 19) You Turn Me On (I'm A Radio) (30) 20) Black Crow (27) 21) You're So Square Baby, I Don't Care (27) 22) Night Ride Home (24) 23) Amelia (23) 24) I Don't Know Where I Stand (23) 25) Michael From Mountains (22) 26) Night In The City (20) 27) Little Green (19) 28) Edith And The Kingpin (18) 29) I Had A King (17) 30) Rainy Night House (16) There are more, but point made...

Again, Joni is not from the same generation as Prince. Let's be real here. If you take into account the American Idol/America's Got Talent/X-Factor/Britain's Got Talent/etcetc shows.....MJ is clearly holding this title. Do you know how many times of seen little kids sing "Who's Loving You"? And yes, I'm well aware it's a Smokey Robinson song, but it's not Smokey's version they are covering. |
