Prince's most P-Funk sounding tracks... And yeah, since P-Funk was one of his biggest influences a lot of their elements find their way into most of his music but what are the most obviously influenced songs? If you can cite certain bands and eras from P-Funk that'd be great. I'm just glossing over their catalogue and I'm definitely hearing a lot of what would end up in Prince's music including the polarizing vocals and Eddie Hazel's guitar tone.

Erotic City - Knee Deep
That's by far the closest Prince has come to P-funk imo.

Soul Psychedelicide
"what is a booty and how will I know if I'm shaking it, what is the funk and how will i know if I'm faking it..." When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

"Hallucination Rain" got that Funkadelic feel in my opinion; I also always thought the chorus for "Violet The Organ Grinder" got some P-Funk flavor in it but I guess I'm kinda alone on this one...

I'd also say "Push It Up" after Doug's rap; the "This is the jam..." & "On & on till the early morn..." chants and that synth bassline are definitely P-Funk inspired to me... [Edited 8/4/09 15:18pm]

Being a big fan of both, I still couldn't find too many memorable similarities, although I was looking for stuff like that ever since.. Everybody says the Exodus album sounded P-Funkish, but I never thought so either. Yes, sure, We Can Funk does, but that's, well, a Clinton track in its final version...
I can agree on Erotic City tho. I'm sure everybody knows the story about Prince writing and recording it after and because of a P-Funk show he attended that night? Apart from that I don't see too many obvious things... Very interested in your opinions, though. Maybe this would make a nice compilation? P.'s F.U.N.K. anybody?
