Yes, old song 4 many of us and I won't comment on that. What I did want to mention is that I noticed during the actual show he looked at the lyrics (on his MAC) almost the entire time. Prince has always glanced at the lyrics book that he use to use (of course now it's a MAC) but he does seem to be using the lyric "sheet" more and more. Not to spread rumors, he's always used the book but he does seem to look at the "sheet" a little more often nowadays. Just wondering out loud...
I guess with so many songs to choose from and in the case of the 21 nights - almost arbitrarily, even the best of us are gonna need a hand. Can U safely say you remember several hundreds of songs verbatim? 'dre Tried many flavours - but sooner or later, always go back to the Purple Kool-aid!

Can U safely say you remember several hundreds of songs verbatim? 'dre well i would dare to say that i know every single prince song, yes. i can write down, recite the lyrics of anything you'd throw at me. but i also understand that i may have listened to a certain song 300 times whilst prince just recorded it in 1985, put it on an album, performed it live a couple of times and pretty much moved on with his life and music. so that makes it totally understandable how someone with so many songs is gonna need a bit of help sometimes. and as long as the performance is cool, he could sit at his piano and read the lyrics all night long, lol. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I had never heard old friends for sale untill the release of the vault. I love the vault version. I later heard the original and loved it just as much but lots of folx do not like the vault version because they are attached to the first one they heard (500 times) Lots of people have probably never heard this song. We really shouldn't put the blame on Prince, we've listened to him sooooo much that we are biased about EVERYTHING. It's ok that we are biased...just sayin' We are the ones who love his music and listen to it to death, let's not hold that against him. (general statement, not aimed at you MrMul) "not a fan" yeah...ok

That has nothing to do with elitism or anything like that I love fusions of genre But I have noticed that there are artist who are not jazz singers/musicians who's careers are shaky and they turn to try to do a jazz album like it's supposed to be easy to do Again my post praised Prince jazz fusion music I'm a fan of Purple Music, I still strongly believe Prince (had/has) his own sound that is unique:just like he expressing in Purple Music, not to often do you find artists especially now who have their own sound, a lot of copycats and clones. I understood your post and for the most part agreed with it. Sometimes "jazz" is used as a marketing trick for middle-of-the-road hacks. And I noted your openness to P's "jazz." I was responding to several posts that had a knee-jerk reaction to anything that is not Purple Rain 2. ok Cause I'm just as big a fan of the 1976-1979 music demos 4 U Prince as I am of Purple Rain music Around the World in a Day is my favorite:Condition of the Heart my fav on that 1 Old Friends 4 Sale(jazz fusion) is my favorite since I heard it on the radio back in 85/86 as a promo for the movie I noticed Prince lost his sound more and more after the Batman album, his voice changed some and had a rappish tone to it, and you hear that on the In A Large Room(remix)

Why get hung up on what is Jazz? It's this type of attitude that closed people's minds to the great music of Madhouse. If it sounds good and has soul, that is my standard.
Just remember, Miles and Prince shared more than a friendship. They shared the same iconoclast, renegade and revolutionary approach to musical convention. I don't know. The more people experiment with it the more people hear it. Therefore, the more people get into it. I think that along the lines of what you said, rap had an adverse affect, not just in the post 1988years for Prince but music in general. I remember back then just about every RnB singer had a rapper on their song/album, every release/single had a rapper, and a lot of rap was remixes of classic songs(they were trying to get a hold of Prince music since 86. So a lot of originality is missing in the music, there are/were some good original groups, most came out of the mid80's - eeeeaaarly 90's most East coast too, but there was still a lot of remixing and borrowing going on.

Yes
Eric did bring a sound to Purple Music that just helped turn it up Which is why I so digging the Family 2.0 stuff, there is a clip on their site where Eric is recording his sax part and I just kept playing it over and over Eddie M(Sheila E sax player)also had a sound that just sounded like it was made for Purple Music:the Ladder & Temptation, Eric & Eddie had a style that just didn't sound like regular sax play machinegun said: I got you OF4S. 86 was "one" of my fav periods because of the chemistry of the band at the time. Discussing bands is what we do here. We do this, it's what we do! I'd love to see Eric Leeds come to Montreux, always P's best sax player for me.

I was comparing songs And I didn't say I didn't like it (again if you read my post) I did like it I said I liked it for a remix and I liked it for a live performance at the Jazz fest I know mostly who played on the original: Eric Leeds also talked about it in an interview: Eric Sheila Lisa Wendy, Atlanta Levi Susannah No your out of it, to be a Prince fan and not realize how much bands and band members matter to Prince music, there are always discussion on it Your nuts Yeah he's doing the show, I'm happy, no one is complaining about that or his current band. This whole discussion is about the remix of a classic song THAT'S IT, U ARE MAKING IT MORE THAN THAT. SHUT THE HELL UP AND LET PEOPLE DISCUSS WHAT THE HELL THEY WANT MACADAMIAN

A lot his music was timeless in my opinion, vvery different and distinct. I'm not saying that none of his music after Batman or Diamonds & Pearls did not have it, I just hear less of it, there are a lot of Prince songs that sound like regular rnb or pop or rock. Space Tangerine (the Rainbow Children album) have that sound. I know a lot of u may like it, but Love Sign sounds like a regular rnb song, then there are a lot of songs from Rave that, I would not be able to point out as Prince, there are also the James Brownish songs that don't have the Purple touch like:Irrisistable Bitch, Love or Money, Housequake had (those are songs that have a James Brownish inspiration but is definately Prince music.
