Dirty Mind...

"When You Were Mine" - coz you're gonna feel that for a while and it's gonna suck, but the song is so simple it's impossible not to relate

"Gotta Broken Heart Again" - 'Oh baby, I can't get you outta my head'

1999...

"Something In The Water (Does Not Compute)" - coz why else would a woman wanna treat a man so bad???

Hope this helps
Just smoke my cigarette and hush

Don't know how you guys can listen to sad songs like these when you've broken up with someone. It'd make me feel worse. I would listen to positive, uptempo funky songs instead.

The sad songs help you realize that you are not ALONE, that other people felt the same as you... and got over it. A well executed sad song validates your feelings, helps you to feel stronger, and less crazy. Works for me anyway, lol.

DON'T DO IT

If you pick a Prince song which will help you be prepared to ruin that song for ever. Once you are over it that song will alwys bring back the pain which is fine for a non prince song but do you really want to never be able to listne to The beautiful ones again? confused

Well I don't know about remembering the good times, but my breakup playlist consists of:

I Hate U
How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore
Nothin Compares 2 U
There Is Lonely
The Beautiful Ones
Dark
Had U
17 Days
The Dance

Sorry about ur breakup comfort

"When Doves Cry" or "I Hate U"

Too bad Prince erased his original version of 'Wally' right after he recorded it.

Apparently, it was his ultimate breakup song (about Susannah Melvoin).

Doesn't work like that for me. I'm not the kind of person that would feel like I was the only person in the world to ever have broken up with someone.

I get where you're coming from. nod And I agree with you in that neither do I "LITERALLY" feel that I'm the only one in the world experiencing a break-up. But it's just that sometimes, when I can hear lyrics that put MY feelings to song, I just find that comforting.

As an example, several months ago, I was literally experiencing the exact situation that The Temptations sing about in "I Wish It Would Rain", and the rain had just started coming down, hitting my window sill as I sat alone in a room feeling sad, doing that Glenn Close thing with the lamp, when that very song came across my playlist which I had set on random play. It was actually the first time I had ever really paid that much attention to the lyrics, and it kind of blew me away that some guy 40 years earlier was feeling the exact same thing I was feeling at that moment. And the thing is: It put a smile on my face, and it lifted my spirits. That's all I'm sayin'.
