AMERICA... anybody know why....?? This post references the song "America" on the "Around The World In A Day" album.
I was wondering if anybody knew why right at the end of the song it suddenly switches from stereo to mono through the fade out? This has always puzzled me &, without speculating, I thought I'd see if anybody knew of the actual reason? (D')

I never noticed this. But my ears are really close together. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

(D') because that's an edit, that change your hear takes place much later in the extended version, listen to the extended version That isn't the case. The album version simply fades at about 3.30 where the extended continues on from there for the full 20+ minutes. That still doesn't explain why the fade out suddenly switches to mono on the album version. It is either an unusual artistic choice, or there was some technical reason why the fade couldn't be in stereo. Was hoping someone might have an insight into the reasoning. (D') I guess squirrel's do have small heads...

Just also noticed that (on the extended version), on the line "teacher, why wouldn't Jimmy pledge allegiance" where the original version becomes mono, the stereo image inverts. (ie. everything that was panned left switches to the right speaker & vice versa). It is most apparent with the exchange of tambourine & cymbals from left>right/right>left.
Curious phenomena! (D')

Curious phenomena! (D') OK, when I get home later, I will listen carefully 2 the vinyl versions. This interests me. "He's a musician's musician..."

Never noticed that before, but just listened now. Quite odd!
Don'tcha wish Susan Rogers or Bernie Grundman were orgers?

(D') I don't know the answer; I just want to commend you for changing from color to black font at the end of your post, thus mirroring the question in your post with your post itself. If only all orgers would put such thoughtfulness into their posts. [Edited 7/13/09 16:47pm]

Don'tcha wish Susan Rogers or Bernie Grundman were orgers? Oh yes!! I guess I was secretly hoping they would be magically provoked to comment on the post. Perhaps their spider senses would have picked up the scent of technical inquisition! (D')
