No Eelco, this is the SECOND confirmation.
He will be there, as it looks now, but how many times he'll play and in what 'vibe' is as of yet completely unknown.

smile SO, to be ABSOLUTELY sure you have a ticket to a Prince show you have to buy the ticket the day AFTER the show ? :-p

More Info On Prince & Montreux
Posted in Celebrity News, Entertainment, Music on July 1st, 2009 by drfunkenberry

Drfunkenberry.com Exclusive Photo Of Prince

We just got word that Prince has rehearsed the 3 players: John Blackwell, Rhonda Smith and Renato Neto for 2 weeks now and taught them new and old material alike as well as a few covers. Sounds cool.

Prince is using a smaller crew these days to allow space for the audience to properly hear his favorite players right now.

We are being told that Prince will, of course be featured on guitar throughout the concert but mainly this year his goal is to showcase his sometimes overlooked vocal abilities. eek eek eek

Hence the stripped down vibe of this crew.

As shown on his most recent performance on the Tonight Show, Prince feels he is improving as a vocalist and has taken the time to re-work arrangements to showcase his gift.

Some tunes will just feature Renato on piano and Prince on vocals. He is Prince’s favorite pianist and as a fan of his work, it’s a treat for him just listening to Renato every night without any audible distraction.

Prince has also been listening alot to new jazz star Esperanza Spalding. He attended her concert in St. Paul, Minnesota recently and she and her impressive band came over to Prince’s Paisley Park Studio for a tour and jam session that lasted til sunrise. Now that’s hot! He loves to play with her and always teases he will join her band one day when he’s good enough. Ha! BTW, she is a must see if you ever y’ll get the chance.

In addition to Esperanza, Prince is a big fan of Ana Moura. Her command of an audience is very impressive. She has a strong voice that radiates sensuality. Accompanied by 3 musicians when Prince saw her, Ana was a template as well as Esperanza for Prince’s new approach to performance.

Awesome news. Let’s hope this concert makes it’s way to the United States soon!-Dr.FB

Europe Tour ?? biggrin

Not taking anything away from the Good DrFB, just out of curiosity...if this is not yet up on the Montreux website (or LF...well who knows if it'll ever be up there), is this REALLY confirmed yet?

but here we go with doing cover versions again ..unless it's 2 play something by the recently deceased i can understand that
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

"It" in that maybe he can't do the physical stuff he use to do. I agree.

"It" in that he's lost his marbles. That's debatable. He's never been "all there" to begin with, which is why I like him.

"It" in that he's lost all charisma, talent and stage presence. I disagree.

IMHO, this is not necessarily a wonderful thing. I go to a Prince concert to see Prince do his thing, not hear his favorite players.

HOWEVER, this group of musicians with him just happens to be my favorite line up so that is wonderful.

IMHO, it would appear that Prince is trying to spin something. There is certainly someone here that can put it into words better than I. He's had the minimalistic stage for years. He's been showcasing his lineup for years. He's playing guitar, yes. He's showcasing his vocals, wonderful. He's stripping down the vibe and stage, okay.

He's bringing it down a notch. Still.

Instead of just embracing that, he's spinning it (again IMHO). Hype, hype, hype.

He's a wonderful performer. The hype is, for me, somewhat insulting to himself and me.

Totaly agree with you.
I would love to go since Montreux isn't that far away from here, but still something to organize: how to go, where to sleep, who's coming with.

All that childish behavior isn't worthy, not for me, not for him.
I'm even wondering how concertorganisers put up with it.

You mean, like dancing?

"It" in that he's lost his marbles. That's debatable. He's never been "all there" to begin with, which is why I like him.

Perhaps, but he still can act 'normal' in certain instances or areas of behaviour, at times? Like a tiny bit of thoughtfullness for his fans when he tries to plan his shows?

"It" in that he's lost all charisma, talent and stage presence. I disagree.

Maybe consider off-stage charisma?
Like this planning for Montreux?
The Lotusflow3r updates?
The T-shirts?
And that is just some 2009 stuff.

Sorry, but if you don't like gigs at short notice I feel really sorry for you that you're a Prince fan... wink

You put stuff out of context.
This is not a tour, noting organised. Just a one-off show.
The festival was had its playlist full for weeks.
Enter Prince.
And all types of fuzziness about whatever.
No commitments, no excuses, no communications, nothing.
`They` should act a tiny bit as if we're all mature people with lives.
