I know someone posted about SPIN magazine doing a special issue on 25 years of Purple Rain. I picked it up today. Haven't gotten into it yet. BUT there is a freebie with it. They're giving away a free tribute album. It's all the 9 songs from Purple Rain, each by a different artist. It's called Purplish Rain. I've not listened yet.

The artists are (in order of the songs on the PR album covering that particular song) Riverboat Gamblers, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Fol Chen, Of Montreal, Chairlift, The Twilight Singers, Mariachi El Bronx, Craig Wedren, Lavender Diamond.

Chairlift did the song "Bruises" which appears in an iPod commercial. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings are awesome, so "Take Me With U" might be interesting.
