What are interferons?

Excuse my ignorance, but what are interferons? "Don't you know dead blood kills interferons"

And what silly point is he making with that line?

i have been doing a little research:

DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Interferons are a family of naturally-occurring proteins that are produced by cells of the immune system. Three classes of interferons have been identified: Alfa, beta and gamma. Each class has different effects though their activities overlap. Together, the interferons direct the immune system’s attack on viruses, bacteria, tumors and other foreign substances that may invade the body. Once interferons have detected and attacked a foreign substance, they alter it by slowing, blocking, or changing its growth or function

Prince has been talking to a scientist at some Kingdom Hall apparently.

To answer that I think you have to break this song completely down.

As far as I can tell this song works on three levels:

Firstly, the fear of music one is unfamiliar with and/or specifically the fear of recent changes in Prince’s musical direction (i.e. the fusion of jazz into his sound). “Surrender your expectations.”

Secondly, the fear of a particular ethnicity, culture, religion, and even skin tone in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. “You’ve been randomly selected.”

Thirdly, the fear of foreign invaders of the viral kind (disease) that are driving human and animal cloning research. “Leave that blood alone.”

In all three cases fear of anything considered foreign or different ultimately leads to a chaotic system.

So "dead blood kills interferons" is referring to messing with the laws of nature (God's laws) by genetically altering the immune system and in the process potentially opening society up to problems and diseases we cannot even begin to fathom.

Many would argue that it’s definitely healthier to strengthen the gene pool by mixing it up, not by genetically tricking it up. Fear only leads to further segregation and further thinning out of the gene pool. Through education -- and the natural expanding of one’s universe that follows -- fear is removed or greatly lessened and many generations from now we will be so racially mixed as to put an end to racism once and for all (“The Rainbow Children”). We would also likely be pretty healthy bastards. wink

Of course if we choose this path over fear and ignorance, by then I fear we will have found even grander ways of dividing, fearing and hating. machinegun

Enough, back to the music. music headbang

yes, but i really don't mind that part nearly as much as the, "is it better to a leader or a follower" segment... there's just something about it that's not cool... especially, because i would have liked someone to pose certain scenerios to him in which it would have been much better for someone to lead their own way than follow someone else... but alas... it still kicks ass...

Every day they're announcing things that will kill you or make you sick. All it does is send people scurrying to the health food store for the latest fad vitamin or herbal supplement.

Theres a zillion things out there that will kill you. No sense in worrying about it. Might as well enjoy a huge NY Strip, smoke a joint, slam a drink, and enjoy life.

agreed!!! I think at times you need to be a leader and a follower however, everyone knew the "answer" was follower so that they could get up on stage - I would have love to hear his rational why it is better to be a follower hmm

Another quick question- In 1+1+1=3, on ONA Live Prince keeps saying "We're talking about a theocratic order tonight!" I never really payed attention to it before, but just what does that mean anyway?

The Theocratic Order is

The Father
The Son
The Holy Spirit

1+1+1=3

I always thought Prince was also implying him + the person he's singing to + god.

aw man, I was wondering if anyone else noticed that...I agree, that part didn't sit well with me at all either. I mean, it was one thing to hear it at the concert, but listening to it on CD, it seems...disturbing. Esp. the way he goes "Too bad" and moves on the next person. His blatant disregard for leadership bothers me. But, that's the kind of cult JWs are. Only "followers" need apply. (Prince will never admit it, but that IS his reasoning behind asking that question, I'm sure).

I was thinking that maybe he's referring to not eating meat when he says "leave that blood alone" and "dead blood kills interferons." I really don't have much knowledge about the body's health system, but I recall hearing something about eating meat and while you get good things from it for your diet, it also introduces free radicals or something, and they're bad.

Anyway, I'm pretty much just talking out of my ass, take it for what its worth.

Ive never heard the track with "leave that blood alone" in it (I dont think so anyway) but couldnt it be a reference to JW's refusal of blood transfusions?

Just a thought.

Hmmm good point, but at the beginning of Silicon the first words are "welcome 2 the Slaughterhouse". I always took the blood reference to be about eating meat.

Are we sure he isn't saying "into Pheromones" and not "interferons"? confuse

I think it's an obvious reference 2 JW's refusal of blood transfusions. Especially since comeon revealed the meaning of interferons 2 us all.

None of it bothers me really, LOL, I just wish he did less talking overall on that one. When you're there, it's COOL, but on record it's not doing it for me for some reason. He just keeps blurting stuff out, but it's his show! I'm just here to gobble it up...

The leader/follower thing is just something for him to fuck w/ people. I kinda like it when the girl says, "leader" & he says, very matter of factly, "too bad..." evillol You can just see her kicking herself! THAT'S some cold shit... disbelief

I thought that was pretty mean myself. Imagine if you were the girl he blew off with the "too bad"! Dang. That would haunt me for a long time.

Oh, and ponder this. P made a big deal about the fact that it was better to be a follower, yet he had the girl follow him. Thant makes him one of the evil leaders, right??? confuse

Interferons make up part of our natural immunity. They are proteins produced by our white blood cells in a response to a viral infection. The interferons then go off and protect uninfected cells from becoming infected by inhibiting the viral spread.

You cannot KILL an interferon.

I agree that this is probably part of the JW refusal of blood donation (“dead blood”) that I don’t really understand why is part of their belief system. If this is the connection, blood transfusion would do nothing to “kill interferons”!!

Which reminds me, I must give blood this week.

Sorry Krystystystyna (I am not flaming you) but they certainly don't engulf cells. Just in case you are studying and have misunderstood!

Dead blood kills interferons has to do with eating meat, not blood transfusions. In 'Silicon' it comes right after the McDonald's reference.
The Theocratic order is God, man and woman. Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the Trinity. He has said before God is not a trinity.
