Sing of the Times brings back good memories! Listening to one of the Sunday night radio stations 'Op slag van maandag', dj Hubert van Hoof always had a fine interest in Prince music. He had some of the tracks way before the album came out, so I felt rich when I heard - and taped - the new tracks. I remember he played La, la, la, he, he, hee that early, before the single was even released.

Then the album and the tour came. 7 concerts in Holland!

Here I would like to share an article from a 1987 Hitkrant edition on Prince in the UK for the SOTT rehearsals:

I have to admit it's not a very good scan, I should try and have it enlarged... The article mentions that the buttler told that it's Prince's room, where he watched a lot of Queen videos. Just an ordinary room, isn't it? It also states that he disguised himself, before going out. And further it shows one of those large travel cases with clothing and shoes/boots.

To me, this collection is a lot like the Beatles 'White Album', in that I rarely want to hear just one track from either release - I want the WHOLE THING! In other words, if I just want a Prince song for casual listening or to play for a friend, I rarely touch SOTT. I've found that it's a much more meaningful experience to sit down for the full 84 minutes and let it take over.

I'm comparing the format - the double album that speaks more as a whole.

I love to listen to the White Album more as one piece of music than I do any particular song from either disc.

Same goes for Sign Of The Times.

I understand - my partner hates them too. Likes a few songs, but doesn't get the hype.

wow... how can anyone hate on the Beatles.... confused

They created art in the late 1960s:, at least 4 or 5 huge masterpieces, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper, White Album, Abbey Road.... damn thats truly fine music.

And yes, Prince's psycadelica music can be compared to what was made by the Beatles. ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT have a psycadelic sound much like the Beatles...

The Beatles.. great band, great message, great sound, great albums.. cool

Imo... wink

It is one of those rare albums that once you press play you don't wanna shift away from it.

Much like a symphony - meant to be appreciated in one big block and pondered later on.

Its the kind of album that he could play live from start to finish and you'd walk away feeling completely satisfied.

Replying to this one coz I can see that peole are going off at tangents with the Beatles. I absolutely agree with listening to this as a whole.I also cannot pick up SOTT for a single track. I've never really thought that before. I also find SOTT strange in the way I always associate it with Summer but there is a definitive heaviness throughout the whole album. That heaviness is good by the way. The album is completely unique and yet familiar if that makes sense
