Behind sott this is my favorite Prince album. Pop Life has always been my favorite song by him.

I admired him for not wanting to do any promo videos for this release - thus Warners cobbled together a video for Paisley Park (that is just awful). Either bowing to the pressure, or realising that in order to get the music heard it also has to be seen Prince decided to step up and do the video for Raspberry Beret. But even then, he did it his way with the oh so unprofessional cough at the beginning. classic.

Yes you have got to love to cough, but I have to admit I'd love to see what Prince would have done for Pop Life. Both that and raspberry beret instantly make me smile.

Really a spectacular album. For me personally, not a weak track on it.

For me, this album with Parade have such a great sound... I guess Prince just got bored of it maybe... he returns to old sounds but never back to this one... the strings/french sounding piano...

such an 'intimate' album for me

I wish he would have done a bit more with this album as far as videos and performances
prove that you can break out of any kind of pigeonholding

I can imagine a colorful concert or performance(s) for this album with the Family opening or Sheila ERomance1600 opening

and a full rendition of Condition of the Heart ...wew I'm blown away thinking about it

Great point. The long form America "video" is still my favorite from P.

It may have to do with the people who introduced those sounds and played them not being there anymore

but he did use the synth sounds from Condition of the Heart during the 2nd half of the Lovesexy tour during 'the Line' poem

the finger cymbals he continued to use in Parade, Sheila E's album and SOTT(which is mostly from the Dream Factory) Condition of the Heart was usually a part of Lovesexy tour Piano medleys and after shows as well as Raspberry Beret the Ladder

And Tempation the latter half especially was premiered during the Purple Rain tour

Well, I was referring more to writing new songs in that same vein...

Was this his quintessential concept album - from the cover art work, to the look, to the sound to the songs?
