What do you think is Prince's best instrumental album?

I think these are all of the officially released instrumental Prince albums. Which one is your favourite? (if I forget any please let me know)

Madhouse-8
Madhouse-16
Kamasutra
Xpectation
N.E.W.S.
C-Note (mostly instrumental)

I think you could probably argue that Eric Leeds' Times Squared also qualifies as a Prince/Madhouse album but I'll leave that up to you.

I gotta say that Xpectation is my favourite. In general I find Prince's instrumental albums to be fairly boring but Xpectation manages to hold my interest the whole way through.

Times Squared qualified IMO.

My personal favourite is 16, but I really like all of Prince's instrumental stuff, with the exception of Kamasucktra. NEWS has really grown on me in the past couple of years smile

Both Madhouse albums. The rest is unlistenable.

Firstly, I think it's cool that a topic like this even makes sense. Who'd've thought back in the day that he'd have a BODY of instrumental work?!
I'm not sure of my answer as I don't have the full Madhouse albums, but Xpand from Xpectation just came up on shuffle and I was really digging it. I'm also one of those that thinks that NEWS is underrated.

I haven't heard the Madhouse stuff. All the other instrumental albums I listened to only ONCE each when they first came out and then shelved them. yawn

I'm not at all a fan of Prince's post-'80s instrumental work (with the exception of "The Sensual Everafter"). If, however, Prince made an album with songs similar to the vibe of "Disco Jellyfish" and the turnaround at the end of "Everlasting Now," I would definitely dig that.

To answer the original question, I'll go with Xpectation (which I was miffed at for lacking the studio version of "Xenophobia," the one without all the band shout-outs and all that awkward "interferon" hogwash rolleyes).
