what was the low pint of prince's guitar playing

Was there ever a time you didn't feel prince's guitar playing?
every guitar player have his good and bad periods even prince.
I find his playing during Rave era to be very dull,he sounded like he didn't feel guitar at all.
so was there a time when prince didn't play up to his standards?

I wasn't thrilled w/ the sound or playing of guitar during the D&P/prince period. I say that because he was having his rap edge to his music, and a lot of times the guitar took a back seat to things. "Call The Law"'s solo sounds more like the mindless noodling he did during the "Like A Prayer" sessions that Madonna and producers said was so weird and unusable. Even in the "Cream" video, he humps it more than he plays it.

I love the prince, but overall with guitar work? Eh. Couple of brights spots of course, but if I want guitar work, I fast forward to The Gold Experience, or Chaos, or go back to SOTT, etc etc.

So no real low points of inspiration. But I think he kind of put it in the background a few times when maybe it shouldn't have been.

everytime he does purple rain live now ..it's boring and predictable
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

id go with the title track to Rave-lazy and not a spot on the live version from small club-which is an excellent guitar work out

I can't say an entire era has disappointed me but I can pick out a few moments. Like anyone else (great or not), he has his un-hot moments but they're overshadowed by his best. Just a few predictable and/or unmoving moments:

-His guitar playing onstage with James Brown and Michael Jackson. However, I blame the guitar. It was obviously set to more of a rhythm tone and he probably wasn't prepared so he couldn't pull off anything too hot.

-His guitar solo to "Creep". Flashy yes but it didn't have a sense of melody and thus wasn't very memorable.

-Same with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". I know most people will disagree with me on this but I think that solo was like 80% feel, 20% melody. And while that feel was very exciting, it ended up sounding kind of like a movie with stunning visuals and a weak story.

-His few moments of playing on "Old Skool Company" on Leno. It was too abrupt and he didn't get a chance to play anything too exciting.

But really, that's all I can think of. I could probably think of a hundred moments that make all of these irrelevant. They're not even bad moments per se, they just don't have the same elements that make something like "Let's Go Crazy" so perfect. The only one I would say was bad was the moment with James Brown but you can't blame him. It was impromptu.

While my guitar when he's onstage with Harrisons son etc-man thats one of the finest guitar moments ive ever seen from anyone. Amazing.....

and for the record-i personally think the performance of PR from the nude Tokyo show-is his finest guitar moment-perfect -every single lick-all the way through and stunning solo. Perfection

It was totally because the rhythm was just too fast. NO one can solo over that and make it sound like anything. It was like a machine gun, and it just wasn't solo-able.
