was prince's guitar playing off during rave era

i tried to discuss this topic before.
question is :do you find prince's guitar playing during rave 2000 era weak?
on rave 2000 dvd there is only one great guitar solo and its played by mike scott.
blues red house blues intro was ok but ending solo was going nowhere.
also i find his solos from thatr era also weak(check that gig from london with chaka and larry)
he improved drasticly during one nite alone tour.
also his guitar effects during rave era were awful.
am i the only one feeling this way???
was prince faking the funk on guitar during 1998-2001 period?

Yes, totally agree, but you've said it before.

But don't just focus on guitar, I think everything about Prince was off during the Rave period including his hairdos and clothing! Glad that's all behind him now.

Have you ever heard "Motherless Child" from the Septimo show?

Absolutely amazing.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

motherless child is nothing special, effects frenzy
very average guitar playing on it.
the only interesting thing on motherless child is that demonic heavy metal break.

some of you can't stand the fact that prince is only human and he can make mistakes, play bad solos, bad music.
everybody here on org who plays guitar can notice how bad prince was on guitar during rave period.
of course he had glimps of genius even at that phase, but he wasn't at his best.
maybe if it was some other guy it would been ok,but its prince.
he spoiled us only to want perfection from him.
he plays much better now and before that period

Banishedone... I agree with you 100%. He seemed a bit bored by it all although his intro on Purple Rain from that DVD is awesome. Unfortunately, the rest of that DVD is a bit of annoying to my ears. His Britney Spears/Backstreet Boys like version of She's Always In My Hair goes down as his worst released moment ever.

That was the plastic generic Prince - everything I enjoyed about his live show and music was gone. Imagine the Rave era Prince standing beside the Lovesexy era guy. Rave era would be ashamed to even wake up in the morning.

For a real good taste of Prince's rhythm guitar playing, listen to a boot video of his Canal Performance rehearsal. He's a beast on that guitar!!

I think his most passionate playing comes from his Lovesexy days when he used to go off!! For proof, get the Small Club bootleg or just watch him perform Purple Rain from the Dortmund show!!

The thing is u've already came to ur conclusion before u got here .. and then u post ur conclusion as a question...

I think P's playing could have been better but it certainly didn't ruin the dvd for me.
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

Maybe some of us can't stand the fact that you post the same shit at least once a week. The same freakin' subject over and over and over...

Who cares? Every musician has a bad gig or goes through a dry period, so to speak. It's cats like you that analyze every so-called "bad note" that takes the fun out of the music. Look at some of Hendrix's footage - some of his performances aren't that great - it happens to the best of them. Prince is no different. In fact, guess what? He's human.

Yes, viewing that DVD can be painful at times (due to the guitar as well as many other things).
